Alison Lundergan Grimes took the stage in Kentucky and delivered a punch in the nose to Chuck Todd by proclaiming that she will not be bullied by the Meet The Press moderator. During a rally in Kentucky will Bill Clinton, Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes said, Kentucky is ready for a senator thats an independent thinker that can put the partisanship aside and actually fight for the people for this state. One that wont be bullied by Mitch McConnell or Chuck Todd. We can do this Kentucky.
Chuck Todd has been crying crocodile tears about how he never wanted to inject himself into the center of the campaign, but his comments about Alison Grimes disqualifying herself by refusing to say if she voted for President Obama have done exactly that. It turns out that while he was trying to sabotage Grimes, Chuck Todd did her a big favor. Todd has become the perfect foil for Grimes to make her point that Washington is trying to tell Kentucky what kind of senator they deserve. Todds comments were so ignorant of the needs of the people of Kentucky that he is the embodiment of why Mitch McConnell should not be sent back to the Senate.
The media are trying to bully Alison Lundergan Grimes by dismissing her chances of winning because the press has already determined that Republicans are going to win control of the Senate. The media have already decide that the 2014 election is about voters rejecting Barack Obama. By claiming that Grimes disqualified herself, Todd was just pushing his preconceived storyline for the election.

(9,141 posts)"The most conservative democrat in congress. Voted most likely to vote against his own party." He can work with anybody"
Idiot hasn't learned yet that when it comes to voting for a republican or a republican lite the republican will win every time. The dem party has much to boast about as Obama has accomplished much against such tremendous odds against a do nothing republican congress and an obstructionist republican senate. That's right...as long as the minority can just routinely use a filibuster rule to block the majority it is a republican controlled senate.

(17,656 posts)Gregory was the host during the transition period for "Meet the Press", after Tim Russert suddenly, unexpectedly passed away.
And even though it is true that Russert had been losing viewers for some time, he still beat Bob Schieffer's program almost every weekend at the time of his untimely death.
So, NBC executives gave Gregory a lot of leeway in order to keep that program chugging along.
Yet, the trend of losing viewers didn't stop after Gregory first took over.
There were a lot of factors involved with viewers deciding to turn off "Meet the Press".
By that time, a lot of viewers thought that the days for a program like that were over.
Because more people were using the internet to get their weekly political fix by then.
So, technology did play a part in it.
In fact, Gregory had a very hard time holding on to his viewers for the first few years.
Some viewers didn't like him as much as they had liked Tim Russert.
Some viewers wouldn't have liked any other host other than Tim Russert.
Some people don't like change, even if the change is beneficial for them.
It's just a part of human nature.
Also, some viewers who had voted for President Obama back in 2008 didn't think too highly of Gregory's style.
And the situation for Gregory worsened after President Obama was re-elected in 2012.
Because a lot of viewers simply tuned him out because they were tired of all of the negativity that Gregory had going on at his program.
So, NBC knew they had to do something before the whole thing went down the shitter.
However, now after they have replaced Gregory with Chuck Todd as the host of "Meet the Press" and they even built a new set for the program, the ratings for that program have hit critical mass.
Todd has already lost 1/3rd of the viewers who toughed it out after Russert died, and a lot of those same viewers had stayed loyal to the program by hanging around watching Gregory for all of those years.
So, by now NBC realizes they have to do something drastic.
Or else some bigwig at NBC is going to reach over and pull the handle on that program and flush the whole thing down the sewer pipes.
What can they do, but replace this last host with a new host?
They can't change the format and allow Democrats equal time on that program, or else their entire agenda will be threatened!
They can't ask just as many Democrats to appear as guests to their program as they do Republicans, or else it will turn into a clinic on how to manage the federal government put on by the Democrats who would lecture Republicans about how good the country responds when Democrats are in control of both, the Congress and the White House, while simultaneously pointing out how wrong-headed the Republicans are when they are in control.
We are still digging out from the Bush years, after all!
And then, there is the inescapable fact that the President of the United States currently is a Democrat.
For another 2 years.
So, NBC is going to have to act quickly to prevent their flagship political analysis program from becoming yet another victim of the Neilson ratings.
The ad revenue that program generates is what drives television, and the NBC executives can't afford to start carrying more dead weight.
Their current fall line-up of tv programs sure as hell isn't going to help them with their bottom line.
If they don't act, and if the NBC executives just think this is a normal bump in the road for Todd and that he can somehow overcome it, then the inevitable will happen . . . the show will become like "Three's Company" in their 5th year after Suzanne Somer's replacement quit, and they replaced her with another blonde that no one can remember the name of!!

(165 posts)Todd should never have commented about Grimes not revealing who she voted for. It is nobody business. Voting is a private matter. The people and voters finally have a person who has an interested in their health, safely and jobs. Even interested in the economy of the state. Unlike McConnell who only interest was power and making millions using the people of KY. McConnell cares less about jobs, the health, earning power and education of KY. He wants power only.
The voters of KY now have Grimes who will make them and the state a great success.
