(111,250 posts)to get them to OK funding to get prepared to deal with this thing?
Doubtful. They don't care if we die. They don't care if they die. They won't vote to fund anything but the military as long as the Koch boys own them.

It's not an easy disease to catch unless you have close contact with a sick person. That means spouses and nurses are at the greatest risk.
After all, Mr. Duncan's family are two weeks out with no sign of the illness. The passenger who became ill on a flight to Nigeria didn't even have his seat mates catch it, although the flight attendant who had to muscle him off the plane did.
The problem with exposure to the blood and body fluids of a patient sick at home is that it seems this is so infectious that the smallest exposure can kill.

No it wasn't over!
Hell yes we can get prepared!
Hell yes we can do better!
Nothing is over until we decide it's over!

(10,745 posts)I would argue, instead, that it's not preparation that's the problem, but, rather, resources; the fact that only 4 hospitals anywhere in this country have all the most optimal tools in dealing with rare but highly diseases such as Ebola, should be a little concerning to most, I would think.

(60,010 posts)In updated preliminary results from nearly 700 RNs at over 250 hospitals in 31 states released Friday:
80 percent say their hospital has not communicated to them any policy regarding potential admission of patients infected by Ebola
87 percent say their hospital has not provided education on Ebola with the ability for the nurses to interact and ask questions
One-third say their hospital has insufficient supplies of eye protection (face shields or side shields with goggles) and fluid resistant/impermeable gowns
Nearly 40 percent say their hospital does not have plans to equip isolation rooms with plastic covered mattresses and pillows and discard all linens after use, less than 10 percent said they were aware their hospital does have such a plan in place
More than 60 percent say their hospital fails to reduce the number of patients they must care for to accommodate caring for an isolation patient.
