Homeland Security Vehicles On The Move-Is there a war stateside that I am unaware of?

Is there a war stateside that I am unaware of?

Honestly, what is the reason for having this type of vehicle on American streets?

Does this go with the 450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammo they just ordered too?

(That's ultra high performance optimum penetration for terminal performance rounds from Defense contractors ATK)

and since they are doing this under the auspices of ICE- how about those detention facilities?

DHS: Stimulating the Economy 2,717 Big Ass Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles at a Time
By: Lisa Derrick Sunday April 15, 2012 6:45 am

U.S. Army Contracting Command decided to upgrade and retrofit 2,717 International MaxxPro Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles with a new vehicle chassis. For $21 million. And someone took photos as the spiffed up vehicles with DHS logos rolled into town.

The contract, along with a $110 million delivery order for 650 suspensions for U.S. Marine Corps System Command MRAP vehicles, went to Navistar Defense, LLC and the work is performed in West Point, Mississippi.

The installation contract retrofits vintage MaxxPro vehicles with a new rolling chassis. This chassis enhancement includes the addition of the DXM™ independent suspension, a MaxxForce® 9.3 engine, 570 amp alternator and driveline, while leaving a residual chassis with a beam axle that can be reused…

5. Yes. The losing battle against the military industrial complex.

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."

Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

(Try to imagine a Republican saying anything of the sort nowadays.)

28. Were there not reports of FEMA camps when Bush was Prez?

It is always good to be alert and aware. The vehicles shown above have no business on the streets of America in my opinion. We are supposed to be the govt(in theory) and we allow this and we should not.

31. And those reports were false, too.

The only FEMA "camps" are the trailers, etc. brought in during disasters. There are no FEMA camps for dissidents or any such thing. It was a conspiracy theory during the Bush Adminstration, and it is a conspiracy theory today.

9. Problem is I can see them having about ten of them

They are good for rescue, all terrain and all that so in a disaster they can even make a nice forward operations command vehicle... communications from hell as well.

And yes, there is potentially there could be one... *cough ruby ridge cough *

After that... more than ten... no, not really....

But you asked if there is a war? Yes there is one... the bullets still need to start flying. I am sure some internal intel tells them that things may really get interesting if a certain man wins reelection. Before you say it, will take my chances and vote for him.

Yup them far right militias are armed, so all that, and having more than ten, might actually be justified if any of that actually happens. I mean they are well armed... and some even know some demolitions.

And on the "far left", we have an organized left? Who knew? Occupy is scaring the living daylights out of them.

16. It's not really clear from the article how many of these

vehicles are headed for Homeland Security use. The Army is the organization that ordered these. So, how many are going to the Army, and how many to DHS? That just isn't clear. Also, these aren't entirely new vehicles, just new chassis.

There's really not enough information in the two articles to get a clear picture.

A drone was used to locate someone wanted by the police. It located that person, and law enforcement officials arrested the person. There was no "strike."

The article was posted here on DU. I remember it.

In fact, here is the thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002546319

Please have a look at it.

If you have some other incident in mind, please provide a link, so we can all go look at it.

22. Where is that pic taken and where is that car carrier headed?

I dunno--I would think that if Homeland Security were planning something nefarious, they wouldn't give away their plan for World Domination by painting HOMELAND SECURITY in Super-Duper Bright White Letters on their evil trucks of mass domination like a Dick Tracy cartoon.

If I were planning on doing something sneaky, I'd put a camo pattern on those things, make 'em look dusty and tired, and let people think it was old equipment coming out of Kuwait from Iraq, or the 'Stan and headed for storage.

The article asks a ton of questions, but provides nothing but "Bad! Bad! Be Very Afraid!" in support of the suspicions raised.

Maybe some Jimmy Olsen can call up Homeland Security and...ya know...ask?

24. Two very excellent questions.

Both unanswered in those articles. If you read the articles, you find out that these chassis revamps are an Army contract, not a DHS contract. DHS may have an arrangement to buy some vehicles that way, though. How many is also not mentioned in the articles.

Does DHS need such vehicles? I don't know, frankly. DHS covers a lot of ground these days.

I wonder how many of those guys were hired under the Bush regime?

I'm sure a lot of young people getting out of the military in the upcoming drawdown would be interested in that line of work.

Remember when rifle toting guards were a feature of third world airports, like El Salvador? The first time I saw them, I was 11. They scared me. And the Federal Building in San Francisco used to have a couple of sleepy guards working the metal detector just inside the front door. Now, it's crawling with DHS in their creepy uniforms and weapons and zeal for no reason. It's like living in some fascist costume party.

and seeing the military with sub-machine guns watching the people getting off the planes. They didn't look bored. I thought how shitty it has to be to live next to your enemy. Looks like our government feels the same way about the citizens of this country. And honestly I think our government keeps it at a certain level of disconnect, because it is now a good industry that can use all that human capital we hear about on the M$M.

29. A case of too much money

they are spending money right and left. I live in a rural area and we have almost 50 agents. They used to patrol neighborhoods, park in front of the store that sells Hispanic groceries, park next to field where workers were taking care of fields, and they had checkpoints where everyone had to pull over. They are currently remodeling a building (few million) $) to house their activities. They had white and green cars with Homeland Security on the side.

People got sick of them so now they drive huge black SUVs with blacked out windows. Can't imagine what equipment they have that are not visible to us.

I bet salesmen are booked months in advance to sell their latest toys to Homeland Security. I want to know what their budget is!

They are headquartered in Port Angeles where they caught Assam Rassad (sp ?). He was caught by two customs agents - well before Homeland Security.
Homeland Security is in addition to two municipal police departments and county sheriff dept. They don't want Homeland Security here.

And I forgot this - they are required to work overtime even though they don't have anything really to do. One agent got in trouble for revealing that fact. The other agents made life "difficult" for him.
