Maybe they're completely aware of how out of touch with regular life they are (and I don't blame them--who wouldn't be out of touch, if they were making double-digit millions a year?), but I wouldn't be surprised if, because they were poor as young married students (and had one hell of a safety net, on both sides of the family) and once lived among the unwashed masses, they think they understand what it's like to get along on $57,000 a year.
