That would be how we lose elections.

6. We have tough handgun laws here in Massachusetts

And a low rate of gun-related deaths. Much lower than New Hampshire, for example.

And Democrats win most all the time here. In fact, there are generally more Green Party candidates running in state and local elections than Republicans.

I want to win NC and Virginia again.

Most respect to you!

12. Typical moderate pragmatic centrist..

Would far rather chase people who wouldn't piss on Democrats if they were on fire than please actual Democratic voters.

It's 11:30 pm on Saturday night, I just heard about eight or ten shots in quick succession in my neighborhood about five minutes ago and then I read your post. I don't particularly care if people shoot in the daytime but 11:30 at night?

25. This is a worthless hill to die on.

We have massive structural problems and deeply corrupted institutions and there are always some that want a tilt at the old windmill and I'm not hearing much "walking and chewing gum" shit because we are hard pressed to do either, the stripmining of the "small people" has not slacked in pace a fucking smidgen. Maybe in a few years we'll see some fruit planted now but I ain't seeing much evidence and none too little of the reverse.

I'm not much on the "pragmatic" set but I really believe their is no upside worth the cost. You reduce poverty, create an inclusive environment, get kids strong education, have vocations for people to fill and take pride in, and a hell of a lot a things that we absolutely must do that will reduce violence far more than any possible control laws.

No bang for the buck in a deep nasty pit of shit is bad tactics , poor resource management, and pushing fetish territory but I'm not an honest broker since I am far more permissive than any NRA. I don't hold with their Reich Wing political shit but I make them look like grabbers on this one believing that law abiding Americans should at least have access to any weapons and systems available for sale to non-NATO nations. Minimum.

So, not only do I think it is jacked priorities, I don't think the sought outcome is desirable no matter how plausible but I won't hide behind the former but that doesn't any less true. I wouldn't forget it was the Turd Way that really pushed this shit in the first place nationally and like all they hatch it has been a fucking bust. It was of ill effect electorally and accomplished nothing even at it's peak.

Well intentioned but ineffective, alienating, and makes for easier prey. The people should always be a match for their military and as such we are underarmed. The final check in any system. Sufferance should never be optional.

32. I wouldn't have posted in the first place if I hadn't heard some asshole blasting away near midnight

At least it's a nominally Democratic hill to die on, unlike the mandate for private insurance, a Republican hill the Democrats seem to have developed a death wish over.

16. we have just about the laxest hand gun laws in the country here in Vermont.

And a low rate of gun-related deaths. Much lower than MA, for example.

And Democrats win most all the time here. In fact there are more Progressive Party members of our legislature than in any other state.

See how silly that is?

I hope so.

17. VT's gun death rate is more than twice MA's

http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparemaptable.jsp?ind=113&cat=2

Only HI is lower than us.

In any case, my point is that we don't need to suck up to gun nuts to win elections.

(But we do need to fight for the 99% - not just pretend to during campaigns.)

Personally, more people need to speak out, and stop cowering in fear every time the NRA pushes more laws to promote gun sales.

21. That's nuts. Single payer could never, ever become law in America.

There was a president in the last century, fellow named Johnson, who tried to pass single payer for everyone over 65. Called it "Medicare" or some such thing. He failed so badly that nobody remembers the thing anymore.

We need "Stand Your Ground" so that men can feel like men. Otherwise we'll feel womanly, and have tender feelings for one-another.

8. I don't have HBO (I am economizing these days)

so I didn't see the exchange.

If he has an opinion about guns, well, the Democratic Party has a wide range of opinion on that particular issue.

He's free to have his views, you are free to have yours. Don't take it all so personally. I'm sure he's not telling you to "fuck off" because you don't agree with HIM.

There are more important issues confronting us.

23. Tavis and Bill agreed in their opinion there would

not be a conviction in the Trayvon Martin Case. Both felt there would be violence if that were the case.

They discussed the underlying problems in our society that this case forces us to consider and confront'.
Everything from gun laws to race to the war on drugs. Tavis felt Obama, Pelosi and Reid had done less
than the previous admin. to enforce stronger gun laws.

24. Yes we do need Tavis Smiley.

What we don't need are the so called "moderate pragmatists." You know the ones who sell out the working class in poor as soon as the election season is over. The ones who tell average working Americans "we are all in this together" when it comes to cutting social services, but gives the rich tax breaks and bailouts. We need Tavis Smiley, but these damn moderate pragmatists are the ones who need to fuck off. So, fuck off, moderate pragmatists, we don't need you. You not only cost us elections, you cost us something far more important, you cost us principles.

26. Tavis Smiley isn't the reason of anything more significant than he is the reason that his car is

parked in his garage.

I just can't stand his smug condescending style even when i end up agreeing with what he is saying.

In any case i doubt more than 6% of the population who he has and most of those people probably agree with him.

more against some of these crazy gun laws.

And he wished that ACA went further.

Sounds good to me.

Sometimes they simply get murdered. They rub a certain violently disposed element the wrong way.
