Does anyone else see the hypocricy..

.. of American muckity mucks bitching about N Korea spending money on a rocket (read: actually a missile test) test when there are "so many" doing without in their society? And now we're going to make our point by cutting off food aid?

I guess having full employment, access to any health care one desires, and luxury accommodations for every citizen, while spending almost nothing on OUR military, we have the "right" to look down our nose at them.

1. Nope - you are the one person who sees that particular hypocricy.

You and you alone. Must be nice.

2. I'm beginning to think that our government's default mode is hypocrisy

As Lily Tomlin said, "The trouble with cynicism is that you just can't keep up."

6. I saw it as the default of the media

and the media has always been more supportive of republican hypocrisy than democratic hypocrisy.

7. Elitist much? How can you claim to be a good Dem, fighting for the middle and lower classes

and then chastise someone for a spelling or typing mistake?

Geez with Dems like you showing those not as smart or fortunate as you the back of your hand, who needs Romney and his ilk?

most on DU seem to only want to see the hypocrisy of others, and not in themselves, nor in their perfect Democratic administration.

5. I noticed that yesterday too

and it irked me.

I guess giving more money to the 1% like the pugs demand and taking away from everyone else is somehow more noble, or some shit.

10. I know it's just "money," but it ends up taking homes, medical care, food, medicine,

education, and so much more from our 99% than just money. We forget that, I think when we monetize everything.

USA has been a huge hypocrite about NK, Iran, even Pakistan and Yemen, our black prisons, .... the list is just too long. Our country behaves as a hypocritical bully across most of its dealings, I've been ashamed of us most of my life.

12. can't really disagree with you there.

the system is rotten to the core as it has been throughout all of human history. It will be an impossibly tough thing to change overall but some inroads can be made here and there.

That the food given to North Korea is actually getting in the hands of those who need the food, then I will denounce the ending of food aid going to North Korea

13. Thank you.

You took the words right out of my mouth. We have been using food as an incentive to get their government to change for years, yet people are still starving, and the government is as fucked up as ever. It's past time to try something else.

16. My guess at your point

That the American government is full of hypocrites for, saying on one hand, that the NK government is terrible for spending money on rockets instead of food for starving people, while on the other hand, here in the US, we are spending money on military instead of basic needs for people who need it.

Is that your point? Because if it is, then why mention making our point by stopping food shipments to North Korea? What relevance does that have to your point about hypocrisy?

21. So? Are you saying it was wrong?

If you're saying it was wrong to stop the food shipments, then I bring you back to my original comment which you dismissed without comment. And further, I would ask why you find it necessary to continue sending food shipments to the North Korean 1%ers.

If you're not saying it was wrong, then I ask again, what was the point of this post? To call them out as hypocrites? Because if that's the case, they'd be hypocrites whether they shipped the food or not.

22. No...

.. what "I'm saying" is that it's hypocritical for the USA, the one nation with far and away, the MOST bloated, wasteful and bullying military on the freakin' planet to try and pretend to have some imaginary moral high ground, while MILLIONS of it's own people are living lives of desperation as the Military/Industrial/Political machine burns OUR resources like they there are limitless. And you don't get it. AND I don't care much for your attempt to sidetrack and hijack this thread. Does that clear up your confusion?

26. Considering you accused me of hijacking the thread

And my "hijacking" consisted of mentioning that North Korea doesn't give its food donations to the people who need it, I can't help but think you aren't sure of the real point of your post.

14. Remember Bush spent the months before 9/11 selling a missile defense shield from north korean

missiles instead of working on actual real terrorist threats. He sold that defense system, the North Koreans still don't have a working long range missile and 9/11 and two pointless wars happened. It could piss you off if you thought about it.
