Wikileaks. I sometimes wonder whether it was worth it.

I believe that government transparency is a good thing and that the sweeping government surveillance as practiced today needs to be torn down. I don't believe Wikileaks "helped terrorists" or anything similar. I don't believe that any people working for the CIA were put in danger by the leaks, and even if that were so it is not something I'd lose a night of sleep over (choose to work for an empire, you take your chances I say). Yes, I believe that Wikileaks hurt US interests in the Middle East, and again this it not something I give a shit about.

What I wonder is this: I understand that the "Arab Spring" and the subsequent civil wars in Egypt, Libya and Syria were in part sparked by the leaks (since the ties of the respective regimes to the West were revealed). I wonder if that was worth it. In the end, in none of these places the people are now better off.
