Yet, credit goes to the propaganda strategy using religion along with 24/7 TV and radio lies.

FWIW, I was pulling for Scotland to vote for independence; I oppose corporate globalization schemes like the EU and NAFTA and would have welcomed a return to sovereignty and independence for Scotland, Ireland, too.

I have friends in Hawaii and Alaska who wish they would become independent, one state is blue and the other red.

Of course, no state is all red or all blue, that's just divisive.

Not sure why you're asking.

So that basis of support for Scottish independence is fundamentally schizophrenic.

Mention of the EU and NAFTA were used to make my point of support for independence, not to suggest that it was their point.

They had other reasons, political and cultural reasons, that didn't require leaving the EU.

There are people in those red states, of course, who would vote for such a thing, but I doubt very much that they could get a majority vote. In any case, there's no mechanism for it that exists anyhow, so the question is really moot. Any secession would basically have to get passed the Congress, and even then, I don't believe there is any constitutional basis for it. There is a method for adding new states and for changing state boundaries, but not for a state to pull out of the country.

There will not be any such move initiated in any serious way, anyhow.

Please don't ask me to assess whether they are capable of getting facts.

It may depend on what FOX tells them.

But the people weren't asked.

I would say no state would leave, patriotism is too strong. But I would not be surprised if 30% in a particular state, like Texas or South Carolina, did vote to leave.

And Unionists were intimidated with enormous violence, quite a few murders. There was only one very corrupt referendum, in TX. But your point remains. It wasn't done democratically.

Take the most impoverished red state you can think of. A state where they receive two dollars in aid for every dollar paid in.
Poor schools, polluted water, low wages and so forth.
Now, start a Koch funded PR campaign. Run it 24/7 on the TV telling how much better independence will make it. The bravery and honer of the founding farmers, freedumb and all that. Speaking tours by Rush Limbaugh and experts brought in by Fox mews speaking at the county fairs. Give every preacher a script about those sinful liberals.
D.C Gubberment bad, local government Good!
Brainwash, rinse and repeat.

Heck a good snake oil sails man (Rick Perry comes to mind) will have them chomping at the bit in six months.
Keep in mind these people have a history of voting against their interests. A history of being told how to think.
That red stat is impoverished for a reason.

The business/money interests in the red states would stop it from happening. Texas would be one of the few that might be crazy enough to try it.

The deep south dark red states such as Mississippi and Alabama, who get $3 from the feds for every $1 paid out in taxes. When infrastructure crumbles, extreme deregulation kicks in with ugly consequences, and social need escalates to social unrest, they'd be eagerly scheduling a "reconsideration" vote.
