(11,138 posts)Here's what MRT is referring to I assume: "Maher commented on the son of former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas): As I always used to say about his father, I love half of him. I love the half of him that has the guts to say we should end the American empire, pull the troops home, stop getting involved in every foreign entanglement
Hes way less of a hawk than Hillary, and that appeals to me a lot because Im not crazy about how warlike she is.
When ITK asked if Maher, who donated $1 million to an Obama super PAC in 2012, would be doing the same for a Hillary Clinton PAC, he quickly answered, No, I dont think so. First of all, Im not as big a fan of Hillary as I am of Obama. So well see whos running. Im not even committing to being for Hillary.
When pressed on whether he was leaning towards the Republican lawmaker in a potential Clinton/Paul matchup (neither has announced any 2016 plans), Maher said, I wouldnt say leaning, but I would say for the first time in a long time Id be considering the Republican product. I might choose their toothpaste when Im in the aisle."
So, he isn't saying he supports Rand Paul, more that he is disgusted by American Imperialism. It is easy to understand why, if that is your biggest issue as a voter, you might consider someone like Paul as opposed to Clinton. Especially if you believe, as Maher clearly does, that Hillary Clinton is a devoted war hawk.
I'm gonna issue a disclaimer here even though it kinda pisses me off that I feel like I have to. Maher doesn't care all that much about Liberal social issues. I DO, and for that reason and many more Paul is repugnant to me. Maher and I are nothing alike in how we view the potential candidates, but that doesn't mean I can't understand where he's coming from.
