Getting Elected as the First Black President Was an Incredible Achievement

With all the kerfuffle over Michael Moore...

When I was a tyke, black Americans were battling against police, dogs, guns and fire hoses for their basic civil rights. Electing a black president was inconceivable.

A few decades later, when a black man with the exotic-sounding name of Barack Hussein Obama announced his run for president, it was still inconceivable. But by hard work and by smart work he won the thing. It speaks volumes that he could do it... and also that the US could do it. There is no doubt that a good bit of racism existed then, and still exists today, but damn!, there's no way that this could have happened a decade or so before that.

So while one could fault Moore's statement as being incorrect, I think it's unfair to call it racist.

One that restored my faith in the promise of this nation. Moore's statements were clumsy, but not racist IMO.

It took a lot of us to GOTV and make it happen.

Like you say, the prospect was inconceivable. But together, we made history.

I was sure proud of my country then ... still am. Courage.
