Washington State Megachurch Closes Branches After Founder Is Caught Calling Women ‘Penis Homes'

On Monday, “Love, Joe, Feminism” blogger Libby Anne pointed out one of the more disturbing notions from Mark Driscoll’s Internet trolling days. Driscoll told church members on August 25 that he was taking a six-week leave of absence from the church.

“Ultimately, God created you and it is his penis. You are simply borrowing it for a while,” Driscoll wrote under the name 'William Wallace II' in 2001. “Knowing that His penis would need a home, God created a woman to be your wife and when you marry her and look down you will notice that your wife is shaped differently than you and makes a very nice home.”

“Therefore, if you are single you must remember that your penis is homeless and needs a home,” he continued. “But, though you may believe your hand is shaped like a home, it is not… And, if you look at a man it is quite obvious that what a homeless man does not need is another man without a home.”

Anne observed that she had “rarely seen an evangelical man assert male superiority and prominence this directly.” “In Driscoll’s treatment, women are no more than penis homes,” she wrote. “Women were created to satisfy men. There is nothing uplifting or honored in that.” Over the weekend, Mars Hill Church said that “negative media attention” had caused financial difficulties, and announced that it would consolidate several branches and lay off employees.

the whole 'Big Three desert originated monotheisms' were created to take power from women centered societies back when women's work was actually more important than men's. Women grew food, created clothing and homes, foraged for such things as honey and other food items. Men hunted, but sometimes came back empty handed. Finally men just decided males being in charge was a better idea.

... I'm guessing you might enjoy it.

"Literacy has promoted the subjugation of women by men throughout all but the very recent history of the West," writes Leonard Shlain. "Misogyny and patriarchy rise and fall with the fortunes of the alphabetic written word."

That's a pretty audacious claim, one that The Alphabet Versus the Goddess provides extensive historical and cultural correlations to support. Shlain's thesis takes readers from the evolutionary steps that distinguish the human brain from that of the primates to the development of the Internet. The very act of learning written language, he argues, exercises the human brain's left hemisphere--the half that handles linear, abstract thought--and enforces its dominance over the right hemisphere, which thinks holistically and visually. If you accept the idea that linear abstraction is a masculine trait, and that holistic visualization is feminine, the rest of the theory falls into place. The flip side is that as visual orientation returns to prominence within society through film, television, and cyberspace, the status of women increases, soon to return to the equilibrium of the earliest human cultures....

Whereas if people were willing - or weren't afraid - to balance the masculine and feminine, the linear and holistic, within themselves, then maybe society (and the world as a whole) wouldn't be so incredibly dysfunctional.

Seems quite possible that, as Earth's resources become increasingly strained, women (being the "birth-givers&quot will face an upsurge in cultural misogyny.

Also a big reason why reducing women to vessels for childbirth - as the Christian Right tends to do - is not only wrong but dangerous.

The bible is full of this mentality regarding reproduction and the duty of men and women to produce children for their god.

And of course, the rest of the guy's spiel is just laughable (albeit potentially dangerous) bullshit.
