One of our local conservatives, wrote in to spout off about the evil of the occupy movement;
Even your letters from the Democrat left on the red-light cameras have the theme of make the successful pay for them, but not us benefit-takers or the parasite city government.
To understand their message, think of the opposite of what they are saying to get it. Even the "patriotic (liberal) millionaires" want you to be taxed more, but Marx forbid they voluntarily pay extra without being made to.
Also, no media outlet looked to see how many loopholes they took advantage of or how much of their income it from tax-exempt bonds or untaxable offshore assets.
Soon as I get up the energy I'm going to respond to this jerk. Any ideas on what I should include in my response?

(15,546 posts)How can you engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person?
I suppose you could ask for specifics as the letter is loaded with generalities and off subject ideas (red- light cameras?).

(45,984 posts)Trying to dissect this kind of nonsense just makes my head spin.
The letter is full of loaded words. The rich are "successful" and the left is "crazy." He implies that all liberals are Marxists. No liberal is a Marxist. A liberal does not believe in the abolition of private property any more than a sober conservative.
Sober conservative, by the way, is a redundancy on my part. I feel it is necessary because of the way right wing morons, like the author of the letter in question, have applied the word conservative and have been allowed to get away with it. The John Birch Society is no more conservative, properly speaking, than the Ku Klux Klan or the Citizens Councils of America (which used to be called the White Citizens Council). A conservative believes in small government, lower taxes and free enterprise. He has no use for organized hate groups.
BTW, if you can decipher the last paragraph, let me know. An English translation would be nice.

(9,186 posts)The "lazy left" were unarmed and civil and were Tazed and beaten by police. They were dragged and beaten for gathering in public property exercising their constitutional guaranteed right to petition their government....
You should try reading something other than Rush Limbaugh's lips. You might learn something constructive, it's doubtful, but worth a try...Merry Christmas Mr. Right-Wing NUT!

(18,470 posts)This is what I cam up with for my response;
We have a party full of people that look with hatred upon those who don't look, think, or believe as they do. A party that has little concern for human life once it exits the womb. A party that puts its benefactors ahead of regular people. A party that cares little for the Constitution - especially that part about peaceably assembling and petitioning for redress of grievances. A party that gets on its high horse about morals and expects us to look the other way when they misbehave. And I am supposed to believe that this party is the morally superior party?
When I was growing up, Republicans cared about America and wanted to do right by us. And I supported them. But that party is gone and replaced by something hateful and divisive, as <original author's> letter demonstrated.
They have a 250 word limit so I had to trim it down a bit.

Enemy list time again. I wish they wouldn't publish home addresses.

(283 posts)So many generalizations here, it's hard to imagine if this twisted person could even process anything specific...
First, note that the occupy movement isn't political, it has always been about the loss of fairness in America. Any good example of white collar crime, particularly financial or political, would put some context to his "unpunished" worries. Maybe ask him if he considers Scooter Libby's crimes less severe than occcupy's.
That screed about making rich folks kick into perpetuate the very same society that allows them to prosper is almost incomprehensible, but in terms of voluntary additional taxes, point out that no business can do their budgeting based on hopes that some customers will willingly overpay for their goods and services. After all, RW's so love to say that govt should be run like a business.
That last statement just doesn't make sense. He's seriously unaware that gaming the system isn't based on political leanings but on greed and misuse of power. If media outlets were to expose everyone doing this kind of thing, and their political bent, does he really believe there would no RWers, or even a minority of them? C'mon, greed is a personal asset in their world !!
