A deadly August is just the tip of the iceberg for Saudi Arabia which executed more than 2000 people between 1985 and 2013, figures provided by the human rights group reveal.
According to them, trials in capital cases are often held in secret and defendants are given no or insufficient access to lawyers.
And people in Saudi can be executed for a range of crimes including adultery, armed robbery, apostasy, drug-related offences, rape, witchcraft and sorcery. Most executions are done by beheading and many take place in public. In some cases decapitated bodies are left lying on the ground in public squares as a deterrent.

Not sure why Saudi Arabia is our ally and we have to go to war with ISIS if the goal is humanitarianism.
Pro "war with ISIS" people, please explain.
EDIT: seriously, can anyone explain why it's OK for Saudi Arabia to do this, but not ISIS? Why attack ISIS and not SA? Why not leave the area to it's own fate?
Our track record shows me that our use of military force in the region just makes things worse..... MUCH worse.

(64,988 posts)Actually, if the oil is so important, we should have just taken over in the 50's and made it a protectorate and commonwealth like Puerto Rico.

(13,461 posts)We, as a nation, made huge scientific advancements after WWII, leading to the space program. We could do this in an effort to get off fossil fuels. We simply won't because of the power of "big oil".

(8,976 posts)...after a bit of checking I found an article explaining that the practice actually described was that beheaded bodies are sometimes hung up for display. In the article when they use the terms crucify or crucifixion they correctly print it as "crucify" and "crucifixion" so as to impart a better understanding....

(15,741 posts)to see if either of them do classic Jesus style crucifixion, I would think they both do.
Whatever you do don't do a google image search, there's a shot from Saudi where they use 2 modern cranes to hang 5 bodies about 20 meters in the air.... really not the kind of people I want to defend.

(25,406 posts)so that they suffer a lingering death, do this to a grossly disproportionate number of racial minorities, many of whom have received incompetent or minimal legal representation, we would have more grounds to be outraged about this sort of thing. One thing about our medieval attachment to the death penalty is that it kind of eviscerates our moral authority to lecture the rest of the world.

(15,741 posts)escalation in Iraq is for humanitarian reasons just does not hold water for me.
Humanitarians that I know want to help those here first, with aid, not bomb the Middle East evil faction DU jour.
