How stupid are the people employed by Fox News?

Well, here's one true story for you.

How dumb is Brit Hume?

In 1984 he worked for ABC news at the time that AT&T was being broken up by the antitrust lawsuit (we don't hear of that kind of lawsuit anymore...but I digress). The night it took place (Jan 1, 1984) Ted Koppel had the Britser on Nightline because Brit had a "fascinating story" to tell.

At 7:30 a.m. Brit got up, disconnected all his phones and traipsed on down to the local AT&T store to return them. After all, he reasoned, now that Atlantic Bell was split off from Mama AT&T, he'd need to get new telephone handsets.

He sat there in a stupid-looking dickey trying to sound all sagaciously "brit humey" trying to explain why he HAD to return his phones!

Forget the fact that he was supposedly a well-informed newsman who had been watching this breakup of Ma Bell for ten years...he thought he had to return his phones because they wouldn't work after the divestiture.

Some poor $5.00/hr. schmuck had to inform Brit that only morons were showing up that day to return their phones because the phones would just keep working fine.

And he's always been employable by Faux News.

1. No one ever accused Brit of being the sharpest tool in the box.

Though he is a tool. No question of that.

4. source?

bc honestly this doesn't sound true. In my experience rich people don't go to phone stores at 7:30am -- they have staff. And the stores aren't open then.

6. Well, I SAW the broadcast.

And face it, most tv programming from that long ago isn't archived on the 'Net.

So, you either have to believe that I'm lying, or that Brit Hume is a moron. Which one is less of a stretch?

Besides, Hume wasn't all that rich back then.

9. ABC obvioulsy had a lot of faith in him

He worked there for almost 25 years, including 8 as Chief WH correspondent. He left voluntarily to join Fox in 1997.
