Allegedly involved in a theft.

Brandished a knife.

Said "Kill me, shoot me now."

Witnesses concurred.

May have video from convenience store and will share as soon as available (both indoor and outdoor).

Two cops shot.

Victim is deceased. (yeah, the police chief called him a victim).

Requests any cell phone video of the incident be shared ASAP.

The St. Louis Chief of Police was a refreshing contrast to the idiot from Ferguson.

Based upon what is currently known, the individual may have had some mental instability and this amy have been a case of suicide by cop.

Can't they take the perp down without shooting them so many times? Tasers, gas, leg shot?
The kettle is on the boil.

There is no second chance...as soon as you seem threatening to a cop, then it is life over. Thanks for playing.

Removing a gun from its holster is the absolute last resort for professional law enforcement officers.

The reason?

If you remove your weapon from your holster, you must be prepared to kill somebody. When an encounter goes that far, the decision to kill must be made.

Apparently, the knife brandishment and movement towards the officers was perceived as a mortal threat to the cops and/or the public.

beings a taser can be used up to 100 feet away.Hand held will shoot 30 feet.

Introducing the TASER XREP – the eXtended Range Electronic Projectile. XREP is a self-contained, wireless projectile that fires from a standard 12-gauge shotgun. It delivers the same Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) bio-effect as our handheld TASER X26, but can be delivered to a distance of up to 100 feet, combining blunt impact with field proven TASER NMI.

I think it's a much better alternative than guns, but gunners don't find tasers, pepper spray, etc., fill their sick psychological needs.

As to shooting in leg, folks who teach gun nuts how to shoot people laugh at that. Police are often from the gun nuts/worshipers.

I would not shoot a person armed with a gun in the leg, but I think there are cases where if nothing else works with someone wielding a knife, fists, rock, etc., it's not out of the question.

Maybe an attitude adjustment is necessary for folks who think they understand how gunz are supposed to be used. Those ole gun memes really are BS. Just an excuse to kill people in many cases.

As to someone with a knife, good wooden/metal staff handling can work wonders.

Had a mentally ill lady pull a butcher knife on me when working in a grocery store, didn't have to use a gun to stop her. Of course, I didn't get any commendations from the gun lovers who long for a chance pull their gun and/or shoot someone.

but my first thought would be a guy who has had too much to drink, maybe a mental thing, maybe pissed about M. Brown.
But no need to kill the guy. This shit is getting way out of hand.

upraised overhead. He was behaving erratically beforehand. Sounds like some bad drugs involved.

Just read about this on Yahoo's news page.
