Nixon also said that a midnight-to-5 a.m. curfew, which had been in place for two nights, would be lifted. Police and protesters clashed both nights, with looting, vandalism, an attempt to overthrow the law enforcement command center and law enforcement officers targeted by gunfire, the governor said.

.

IOW, compliance with authority is at the heart of this entire fuck up.

First, it was compliance with the cop.

Instead of the cop presenting himself as a helpful agent and part of the community, he started of as a pushy authority figure.

This often leads to escalation, and a good cop knows that and doesn't go there.

Most of the acts by police agencies that followed were further exercises in authority absent the required amounts of expression of good will and trust.
