This is so creepy

Two dolls anonymously left at homes in San Clemente are shown in this undated file photo.

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KABC) -- Orange County sheriff's deputies are searching for a person who anonymously left porcelain dolls on the doorsteps of at least eight homes in San Clemente. Each doll resembles the daughter who lives in the home.

The dolls were left in the Talega community in San Clemente over the past week. Sheriff's investigators collected the dolls as evidence and are working with the families to find a connection between the homes.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Department's South Investigations Unit at (949) 361-8224 or (714) 647-7000. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS (855-847-6227) or at occrimestoppers.org.

Given this day and age, and justifiably so, I guess. But everyone's first thought when these dolls appeared was that it had to have been the work of a stalker or sexual predator -- the possibility that it was just a random act of kindness apparently never entered anyone's mind.

I'm sure it never occurred to the old lady that her actions would be so misinterpreted, but then she is coming from a different time.

Sad to think that you automatically have to assume the worst anymore, but as I said, this is what things have come to.

Where is there evidence if any crime? It is certainly weird, but nothing even remotely criminal about it. You'd think the cops would have something better to do than investigate non-crimin doll droppings.
