Syrian security officials ‘tortured pregnant mother with electric shocks in front of infant sons’

Mr Karnebo spent a day in the same cell as the captive family, who were of Somali origin. As the revolt took hold, all outsiders were viewed with deep suspicion, apparently explaining their arrest. The father, whose name was Ahmed and who looked to be in his twenties, was in the cell alongside his pregnant wife, who was about the same age. The couple’s two boys – aged about three and five – were also with them. So was Ahmed’s mother, a woman in her fifties.

“The security men wanted them to confess to destroying buildings. They wanted them to admit they had come from outside the country to cause trouble in Syria,” said Mr Karnebo. “But they were just people who had come to Syria to look for a better life.”

All three adults, including the grandmother and the pregnant mother, were tortured with electric shocks in front of the terrified children. Shocks were systematically applied to the most vulnerable parts of the body, concentrating on elbows, hands and toes. “When they went to torture the wife, the husband was shouting ‘she is pregnant, she has a baby inside her’. But they had no problem with doing this to her. They had no mercy.”

that they could have if they wanted to. In conjunction with them being evil anti-humanists,
it goes without saying that they wanted to. So given a desire and an opportunity, it makes
it only a matter of time before they do it. So it is clearly our duty to stop them from doing
it, whether they have already done it or only thought about doing it or didn't think about doing
it yet but might think about doing it at some later time. Either way if we stop them from
doing that, they won't be doing it anymore. And that's the important thing.

Perhaps it's propaganda but that doesn't diminish the fact that thousands have been killed by Syrian forces. And to what purpose would the propaganda be fomented? It's not like any nation is clamoring to go to war with Syria- or will.

Before I put any energy into a decent reply, I have to ask: are you seriously that naive and gullible or is this some clever debate tactic that I'm not fully aware of? It's analogous to asking something like "why would an advertising company use sex to sell a product?" ...

I would love to see what this crowd here would done with the civil war. I can see lots of posts about the genocide committed in the south, the siege and bombardment of Atlanta and how the Union army were punishing civilians. They will be asking for no fly zones and the arming and funding of confederate soldiers.

But the truth is that war is hell, if you decide you want to overthrow their leader, better be sure you are capable and have the full support of the people, cos if they did, they wont be needing any support from foreign countries or people paying their salaries. Fighting for freedom is what men do for free, mercenaries of the other hand need to be paid for their work and that is what the FSA is.

I have video of the terrorist attacking Syria faking videos of dead people but if I dared post it here, my post will be deleted and my account may even be banned. They will call it conspiracy video while this one is not. Also look at the people(in teh ME) forcing Syria to democratize, all of em are dictatorships/monarchies.

Open your eyes and see that this has nothing to do with humanitarian issue, its all geopolitics and a proxy war against Iran. I grew up in a dictatorship and my mom lived through the civil war and I from stories she told me, you do not want to experience it . Dictatorships are bad but war is hell

post the puke icon all you want but the majority of the people in Syria support Assad just like they did in Libya and this so called humainatrian concern is about taking out an Iranian ally. The brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters in Baharain and Saudi Arabia is ignored by the people oh so concerned about Syria.

And if you cared one bit about lifes of civilians, you better stop encouraging these raving lunatic thug terrorists trying to take over Syria. Because if you think Syria is the only place where there are groups of people dissatisfied with their govt and would love to over throw their govt then you dont know anything. Will the United States and its allies also help Nigerians overthrow their western backed govts? or is this support only reserved for Syrians and non compliant govts?

and all the journalists from all the different countries are just trying to lie us into war and the bodies of children whose parents say that they were killed by Assad's forces really murdered their own kids. Oh, and honey? How about showing some evidence for your claims? You know, like evidence that the majority in Libya supported Qaddafi.

Oh, and I suppose ALL the major and respected NGOs like Amnesty are lying because they want war.

Oh, and you have to utterly oblivious to not realize that the U.S. is not going to intervene militarily in Syria. At least not under Obama.

And no, dearie, my outrage is certainly not limited to Syria.

Your post is fucking ridiculous, my dear friend.

Not counting this particular thread, here is a listing of every single post I have made on the subject of Syria on DU3. I don't really expect intellectual honesty from your kind, or any sort of basic decency in debate tactics, but I defy you to point out a single syllable of "dictator apologia" in any of them. I really think so little of you and others that resort to the most crude smear tactics and vapid emotional appeals that I really expect this sort of routinely low behavior, but it is still infuriating.

And for the benefit of my dear new friend Rex, who is most adept at extracting antonymistic readings from messages, let me simplify this: this post was a really long-winded and verbose way of saying "go fuck yourself"--but, saying it in a way that may not be immediately scrubbed into the memory hole.

I find large parts of these atrocity stories to be implausible, self-serving and lacking credibility. But, some of it is true - but the lies spoil the truth. That's why I wish you didn't post these unsupported atrocity stories. It dilutes the impact of the terrible truths.
