Help! I'm being oppressed!

The white privilege stuff is getting a little boring, come on. I'm not feeling guilty that I'm a white male, and no one should feel guilty or a collective responsibility for the entire white race. Individualism is a great thing, rather than trying to put some kind of moral responsibility on a single individual for a whole race.

Note: my thread title is meant in an ironic way. I vaguely recall there are some jokes that had that in them.

2. First of all, got news for you. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS THE WHITE RACE...there's only one race

unless there's some Venusians running around or some Vegans up the street. THE HUMAN RACE is the only one and we all belong to it. IF IT WEREN'T THE CASE, we couldn't produce children with one another, in spite of what color we are, hair texture we have or facial characteristics we display. Secondly, NOONE is asking for you guilt. the only reason to fell guilt is because somehow you have done something. Now, you have to deal with your own heart BUT the one thing I can never understand is how anyone can stand around and do nothing when they see a wrong being perpetrated against another member of the race of (HU)MAN.

Quinnox, I want you understand that being able to be "BORED" with the idea that you have an inherent leg up over many of your fellow humans, HELL, AMERICANS, tells me everything I need to know about your position You see, as a woman, a black woman, to look at me but actually MULTI-ETHNIC woman, I can't afford to be BORED with my position because if I lay down for too long, I WILL find myself at a place with a lot less that I have now. Your position in THIS country is an enviable one because you don't have to do sh!t to maintain that position but people like me are constantly having to justify my right to live free and enjoy my country and life. Damn it, my right vote as a black isn't even guaranteed. It has to renewed every few years.

I've always been told that I needed to understand that I needed to work to make sure to hold onto what I had and to claw for what I deserve. If what you have and your mindset about it so '"BORING", tel me me something. If it were possible, would you change places with me? And be honest. Don't worry, I'm patient and I'll wait.

4. Nope, I'm happy being me

I don't want to trade places with anyone, even if they were mega-rich or an Apollo like handsome dude, because then I wouldn't be me anymore.

I don't see color as being the most important factor when I look at people, its down on the list of considerations. I look at people as individuals, not some "Borg" collective (Star Trek reference).

5. Well, good for you. Unfortunately, they aren't enough people in the right places...YET

who look at people like you do. People like me are only asking to be allowed to be Americans, to be able to live happily, grumble about taxes and gas prices, go shopping without being tailed like a would be defector from NK; to be able to take a walk in the neighborhoods we live in without having to worry about the police assuming we're up to no good. Do you know how many times I've been suspected of being a "working girl" because I was WITH MY HUSBAND? To this day, there's a famous casino in Nevada I will never go to because I was actually sidelined by security who suspected me of being a lady of the night because I was with a WHITEMAN!!

Yes, Quinnox, it may be boring for you but you'd see your situation a bit differently if you walked for a week in the shows of your fellow Americans who don't have your "boring White Privilege".
