Guardian interview with Edward Snowden:
The past year
Its been unexpected and challenging but its been encouraging. Its been energising to see the reaction from the public. Its been vindicating to see the reaction from lawmakers, judges, public bodies around the world, civil liberties activists who have said its true that we have a right to at least know the broad outlines of what our governments doing in our name and what its doing against us.
Being able to be a part of that, even if its a small part, has been, I think, the most rewarding work of my life.

Thank you Snowden, Manning and all the others who have the courage to do what is right no matter what the consequences may be to themselves. Most of us do not have that kind of courage.

(8,155 posts)Yet feel entitled to criticize it.
No one here is forcing you to read the story. However, not reading the story and then feeling as though you are entitled to talk about it is patently absurd.
Until you read the story, whatever your opinion is of it is irrelevant and all you're doing is embarrassing yourself.

(15,429 posts)Just as you are entitled to criticize me.
Making an idiotic statement about the government killing you automatically invalidates anything the stupid bastard has to say.

(27,813 posts)... but I'm not really "back" - no OPs, no editorials - just weighing-in on the Snowden/Greenwald threads from time to time.
I have found it fascinating to watch people who have always prided themselves on their "healthy skepticism" now abandoning all skepticism when it comes to anything and everything that ES/GG have to say.
Ironically enough, most of them are people who constantly accused Obama supporters of "believing everything Obama says" - but when it comes to their idols, they swallow everything whole and will not tolerate anyone questioning the veracity of their statements, or their motives.
It's been a lesson in how cult-like thinking takes hold, watching those who once demanded proof of everything now not so much as raising a question about anything.

(8,155 posts)But you're not entitled to actively participate in critiquing an article you've never read. With every post you make, you further impose inappropriately into a discussion you couldn't possibly understand because you never bothered to read the source material.
I want to be clear here when I say there's nothing flattering about being intellectually lazy. If you want to talk about a subject, respect those who want to participate in the discussion by knowing what you're talking about.

You can't be even bothered to open a link in your browser. Do you understand the sheer laziness of such inaction?

LOL. The closing of the liberal mind.
Only someone who is important is assassinated. And someone important is protected, to a degree, by the public eye. The scandal about the phone companies handing over data has been blown way out of proportion.

The fact is that the Government will kill you. To think otherwise is naive. Many convenient suicides and accidents in our history, if you've been paying attention.
