TOWNHALL“I find it very offensive that men think they can tell women what to do with their own life”
An elderly woman from central Iowa had harsh words for Rep. Steve King (R-IA) at a town hall meeting Tuesday, reprimanding the congressman for his attacks on the women’s health provider Planned Parenthood. During his time in Congress, King has been one of the most outspoken critics of Planned Parenthood for providing abortion services. The vast majority of Planned Parenthood’s services — 97 percent — don’t involve abortion, but other women’s health needs like mammograms, cervical cancer screenings, and STI tests.
The constituent, Shirley Grant, assailed King for wanting to defund Planned Parenthood and make it harder for women to get health care and “take charge of their destiny.” Said Grant, “I find it very offensive that men think they can tell women what to do with their own life.” GRANT: When women want pro-choice and want to take charge of their destiny, you and your cohorts want to take funding away from Planned Parenthood. My daughter says, “throw out the word ‘birth control,’ Mom. Planned Parenthood isn’t that.” She says it’s for hormone replacement and that means you use those pills for many, many, many different areas of women’s lives. I find it very offensive that men think they can tell women what to do with their own life. http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/04/06/458514/steve-king-planned-parenthood/

2. We need more like her
|
Not a single puke town hall or presser without a few women there to remind everyone exactly what the priorities of the "modern" Republican Party are.

3. Ask others to fund things and they will interfere.
|
It kind of goes with the territory.
How our government spends money makes it everyone's business. |

4. Oh, I see

Since you get tax credits for your children and your home, can I interfere in your family life and dictate what you do in your home?

17. We have the option to grant or not grant the funding.
|
That is what I am talking about.
And I don't have kids nor have I received any tax breaks for my home. I don't think the system is fair to people without kids. |

23. You have the option
|
To not take mortgage credits or claim your kids, too. Do you take tax credits for retirement funds? If so, then I suppose we should be able to interfere with how you spend your retirement, since, you know, we are all paying for that.
Do you get medicare or social security? Nearly EVERYONE gets some kind of tax credit or some sort of "entitlement". You are very keen to harp about issues involving finance. I find it EXTREMELY dubious that you have received no tax breaks for your home unless you either inherited it or own it out right. If you own it out right, then you almost certainly are receiving some credits unless you are just plain awful at doing your taxes. I suggest you get an accountant if that is the case. Oh, but you can go ahead and interfere with things because people interfering with what YOU do is bad. Interfering with everyone else is A-Okay. |

24. Oh I am going to be taxed on those funds later, probably at a higher rate than now anyway.
|
But I have no intention of relying on the government to provide me with the things I want/need, mostly because I don't have faith it will in any shape to do so by the time I need it.
I don't want to be that Greek protestor so desperate when the government realizes it can't pay me my social security check that I want to kill myself. |

25. So you aren't taking retirement fund credits?
|
You need an accountant if you aren't. But I suspect you aren't being truthful, because you know I made a very good point. You are one of those "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" types that doesn't realize they have had helping hands along the way and still rely on helping hands, but it makes you feel important to tell others that you are entirely self-reliant.

38. I suggest you stop driving on public roads.
|
Also, if you ever received any public education, you should reimburse the government, because, you know, you don't rely on them at all.
And if your house catches on fire, I assume you will let it burn to the ground, because we wouldn't want to rely on any people who are paid by tax dollars to help, right? |

You should probably file amended tax returns for the years you didn't deduct mortgage interest payments. Did you know you could do that? |

PP has been a bedrock organization for decades, almost unnoticed as a controversial group until recently. Hell, even Poppy Bush endorsed and supported them.
Why now? And why is this even a controversial subject? |

King's opponent is a woman (Christy Vilsack), and not terribly liberal but sadly there will be plenty of women in NW Iowa that will still vote for King. It is sickening.
We're hoping that redistricting will help us boot his ass out this time around. |

Conservative assholes here in California are frothing at the chance to turn us back into a red state - and I seriously fear they will which means there goes 55 electoral votes.

Last edited Fri Apr 6, 2012, 07:07 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) The current district includes Sioux City (83 K), Council Bluffs (63 K) and few 10-25K towns. In the new district for 2012, Council Bluffs is gone, but Ames is added (58 K). Ames is a college town (Iowa State University). They aren't as liberal as Iowa City but hopefully they will help move things to the left a little.
While there are a lot of rural areas to deal with, this is the most hopeful I've been in a long time to get rid of King. |
