Dear Friends and Activists… California leads the way out of Citizen's United decision...

From an e-mail with subject heading, "Big Positive News About The Movement To Overturn Citizens United"

We have major good news to report on multiple fronts.

First, thanks to the diligent activism of our CA participants,
SB1272, the Overturn Citizens United Act, appears to be headed for a
passage vote in its last state committee before it goes to the full
CA Assembly, having already passed the CA Senate. This would put a
measure on the November ballot to give the citizens of CA a chance to
speak out on whether they support a constitutional amendment
specifically, to get the big special interest money out of our
elections.

The massive importance of this is that it will dramatically increase
turnout for the very candidates we must elect to make a
constitutional amendment actually happen, and can be a powerful model
for how to do it nationwide, state by state.

Second, we were just notifed by Kickstarter that they have selected
our Citizens United, The Movie, Day 2 Shoot project as one of their
OFFICIAL staff picks. This is HUGE news, as we again are moving into
the top 10 most popular of all current Kickstarter movie projects.

Citizens United, The Movie, on Kickstarter: http://kck.st/1v0dhXM

And we just posted on this page the latest update of progress on the
production of this important mobilization vehicle in the form of a
full length feature dramatic film.

In the new video you can watch the fully completed opening sequence
with the James Madison voiceover and fresh new clips we shot for our
montage of colonial activities in authentic attire, thanks to the
wholehearted cooperation of Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation.

And we have assembled our first edit of the green screen footage of
our main founding fathers scene with James Madison and Alexander
Hamilton. The acting is great and the hair styling and costumes are
perfect. We are just starting to put that together with the true to
historical life backgrounds, but when you see the final thing all
assembled we promise it will be stunning, a critical scene to set a
baseline in the movie for what the founding fathers REALLY meant the
Constitution to mean.

The new Kickstarter round only has another 9 days to run, so please
take a moment to check it out while you have the chance, share the
page with your social media contacts, and if you are inspired to make
a kind contribution of any amount to help bring with dramatic movie
production home, we have lots of great rewards for you there, some
available nowhere else.

You may forward this message to any friends who would find it
important.

You know, I never thought of trying this on the state level. I think a lot of states would overturn it, and might even try to have publicly-financed elections. That would be an awesome example to showcase for the nation!

THIS is the only way we can overturn it. And, as is often the case, California thinks it will lead.

They run every two years, and we all may as well get started. I ain't getting any younger!

Even a lot of conservatives hate it; I've talked to some about it. Citizens United is nearly impossible to defend publicly.

There were several people at the Judiciary committee hearing a couple of weeks ago from WolfPack, 99Rise and just regular citizens. It was great to watch! The final committee vote was 5-2 along party lines.

There are lots of people arguing against this and this is going to be an uphill battle. There's a lot of misinformation out there and many scary things predicted (replace our Constitution); however, what has traditionally happened is when states start the ball rolling, Congress eventually gets a clue and proposes and passes the Amendment themselves without having to have a Constitutional Convention.

This is a GOOD thing!

was what the WolfPAC was trying to explain.

That needs to be made clear. I was one of those confused by the reference made to "article V" by WolfPAC. I haven't had my eye on this, obviously.

But, when the SC does something wrong, we need not be afraid of due process.

several people challenged me and *I* had to go back and ask and look stuff up. I just think if we can get enough states up and interested in doing the same, get a genuine grassroots movement up and make sure Congress hears us, hopefully, they'll see no other choice but to do the right thing and add the Amendment. It's a big "if" but we have to do Something to reverse those Democracy-killing decisions.

Thanks for your thread, by the way. We desperately need to raise awareness on this issue and, hopefully, get more people involved in the movement.
