Republicans block electric car charger on Captial Hill

You want to see how f*%$'d up things are in Washington D.C.?

Michigan Senator Carl Levin owns a Chev Volt. But there are no plug-in car chargers in the Congressional parking lot.

So Senator Levin introduced a bill in the Senate, to tell the parking lot people that it is OK to install an electric car Volt charger.

No cost involved, mind you, not a taxpayer dime is at risk. The bill simply said it would be ok to designate several parking spots inside the Senate parking lot, to have someone install an electric car charger. Designated electric car area. Only that it's o.k. to do that.

Guess what?

A REPUBLICAN BLOCKED THE BILL.

This is what is wrong with America people- REPUBLICANS BLOCKING CRAP SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S SPONSORED BY A DEMOCRAT- EVEN IF IT IS EXCELLENT POLICY, HELPS PEOPLE, AND DEMONSTRATES GOOD
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP.

Petty, petty guys, aren't these horse & buggy republicans?

I wonder how we ever managed to get from the days of horses...to the days of cars. It's like they continue to intentionally try and take us back into the 19th century....

5. How would it be 'no cost'?

It sounds like a cool idea to me, but someone's going to foot the bill for the installation. I looked at the Volt, but at $39,000 plus tax it was waaay out of my price range. Did Levin buy his, or was it a gift from GM? Even on a Congressional salary of $165k that cost is a significant one.

8. it's in the linked article

"The monthly fee per user would be approximately $28 – $35 — enough to offset the price and keep it “at absolutely no cost to the taxpayer.” "

(emphasis mine)

15. Well No Cost - after 4 years .....NOTHING IS A NO COST!

$6000 divided by 4 users divided by $28/month = 53 months

$6000 divided by 4 users divided by $35/month = 42 months

have to see it every day when they leave the capitol.

16. Big Oil might not like that, they can't take the risk of angering their masters

They are just doing what Ronald Reagan would have done. Carter put solar water heating panels on the White House and Reagan took them off.

P.S. Electric car chargers are universal. The way that phrase is worded it sounds as if it would only work on a Volt. It would work on any production model electric car sold in the U.S..
