The Oz books by L. Frank Baum (and the film) are of course more closely associated with Kansas, but the Wizard himself is an Omaha native. Sure, the Wizard tells Dorothy he's a Kansas man in the movie, but what of the writing on that hot air balloon? In the books, he's an Omaha guy. Another fun fact: The Wizard's full name is Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkel Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs. A common Nebraska name.

(37,573 posts)at least not in the first book.
But on page 160 the wizard starts his story with "I was born in Omaha ..."
In the book though, he manufactures a balloon rather than still having the one he came in.
"A common Nebraska name" must surely be meant as some sort of joke.
I am not sure if the fictional character hfojvt is "from" Nebraska or not. But he did graduate from UNL with an MA in 1990, to his everlasting regret.

But I was not gonna try to scan/read all of them.
The article could have provided a cite, nicht wahr?

(11,360 posts)... having read these books numerous times, so I knew where to look. My kids loved them when they were little, and they are great for reading aloud to children.
