GOP cuts off Rep. Bobby Rush for wearing hoodie on House floor

Republican leadership in the House of Representatives shut down a prominent member of the Congressional Black Caucus after he donned a hooded sweatshirt in honor of a Florida teen who was recently gunned down by a neighborhood watch leader.

During his morning remarks on Wednesday, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) observed that the racial profiling that had possibly led to Trayvon Martin being shot by George Zimmerman was often repeated across the nation.

“I applaud the young people all across the land who are making a statement about hoodies, about the real hoodlums in this nation, particularly those who tread on our laws wearing official or quasi-official clothes,” Rush said, removing his suit jacket to reveal a hoodie underneath.

“Racial profiling has to stop, Mr. Speaker,” he continued, pulling the hood over his head. “Just because someone wears a hoodie, [it] does not make them a hoodlum.”

Allowed the speaker to proceed giving him ample time to make his point and then afterwards given a minor chiding for wearing a "hat".

But Republicans only enforce rules when the feel it suits them. $*@(&()!

they wouldn't be screaming for him to suspend.

I'm betting any bishop could visit the chambers in a miter, any cardinal in a beanie, and any pope in whatever bejeweled hat he might like.

Would a Republican be "suspended" if HE put HIS "jacket" over his head? It's not "headgear," it's an all-in-one jacket. A 20th-21st Century "cloak" if you will....sort of like the thing that The Good Samaritan tore in half, to cover that man who had been beaten, robbed, and left to die on the side of the road, and all...

As a side issue - hats indoors are now standard among many groups, but drive some middle class whites of a certain age right over the edge.

Sorry for the seemingly "bent description" of myself.
Take it anyway you need to.

I'm white, almost 60 y.o., from the North. Love hoodies! Wear them all day.
Up here it only makes sense.

Plus we all know that Hoodlums don't tie their shoes,
that's how you can tell what they are !! (Sarcasm for those who need to be told.)

Some people in this country make me want to puke chunks.
