America’s Most Corrupt States

The Center for Public Integrity released a report detailing the risk of corruption and lack of accountability in all 50 states last week. The findings of the report should worry anyone who believes state governments are transparent and free of corruption. Of course, no state is without flaws. Unfortunately, nearly every state received a grade that would give residents cause for concern.

The Center for Public Integrity’s report examined issues concerning accountability and ethics in each state government. States were graded on 330 separate metrics, which were grouped into 14 major categories. Overall grades are based on the average grades in the major categories, which included lobbying disclosure, political financing, internal auditing, ethics enforcement agencies and redistricting.

These are America’s most corrupt states.

1. Georgia

2. South Dakota

3. Wyoming

4. Virginia

5. Maine

6. South Carolina

7. North Dakota

8. Michigan

15. According to the article NJ was the least corrupt state in the US.

Something smells about this article. The way they graded leaves a lot open for discussion.

5. from their commentary it looks to

me like they're measuring *potential* for corruption, rather than actual, historical corruption.

12. Me, too.

I lived in South Florida all my life until 1989 when I moved to Georgia. And I think Florida should be No. 1. I saw so much corruption, it would make your head swim.

6. Just a couple

of months ago a political scientist named Illinois as the most corrupt state. What happened to that?
We were proud that we were first in something, anything. So now the mafiosos who took over politics in Ill. aren't corrupt anymore?
I don't believe any of this story.
