(521 posts)11. The Texas Concealed Handgun Law does not apply on Fort Hood. Concealed handguns are prohibited on Fort Hood.
All official firearms are unloaded and locked away in vaults.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)and MPs patrol. The reason they don't allow soldiers to carry is they know how frigging unsafe gunz are, especially among those attracted to the dang things.
One level of security with the gate guards and then you are in a gun free zone.
And you are completely wrong about "The reason they don't allow soldiers to carry is they know how frigging unsafe gunz are".
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)don't allow loaded gunz. The yahoos attracted to them, aren't safe.

Well, truth, snarky one liners and a lot of pictures of large men wearing camo.
You're short on answers and rely on terms like "gunz and yahoos".
Just FYI I saw the post you made about that one gun guy's son.
You are not the asshole you present.

(2,952 posts)During gun qualifications for watch standing....IE armed guards....as to why weapons are kept
a) unloaded during watch(unless there was a threat condition) and...
b) not allowed outside of watch standing
...they do not want you to accidentally discharge a weapon...and you will get sh@t on if it happens. You're accountable for every bullet...
...they do not want some seaman/airman/private, who's pissed off at his chief/sgt/divo, to have access to a weapon and kill said personnel with it...
It's common sense really....I'm not even mentioning the PTSD factor....the military is smart enough to realize it's better to not have everyone carrying on a base, but after this and the Norfolk shooting who knows...navy bases have gate guards and individual ship/sub armed topside watches to boot....

(18,498 posts)were there very many people armed?
Consider both of those are high security installations with much higher security than a typical base.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)They know what would happen. They laugh at private citizens who have to put up with armed yahoos who think they live in a war zone.
sarisataka
(18,498 posts)Yet weapon possession is controlled, though not for reasons you think. It is not necessary to be armed to perform most routine military duties yet a weapon must be under positive control at all times. To constantly be armed would inhibit day to day operations.
The reason weapons are secured is because these are assault weapons. The vast majority are fully automatic to some degree. Such weapons would be prime targets for organized crime, terrorists, radical militias and other bad elements. If everyone just walked around with them any yahoo- if I may use your term- could come in steal a bunch with any gun that was loaded. Could you imagine the carnage at the border if the self appointed patrols were equipped with machine-guns and M-4s?

(54,770 posts)toting. The military has enough sense to ban weapons from most folks on base.
