Bill soon to allow more Indians to visit US

Amid Indian IT firms' concerns over restrictive US visa policies for their employees, a top American senator has assured that he is working on a bipartisan bill that will reform immigration laws and allow more Indians to come to America.

Influential US Senator from New York Chuck Schumer and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid met noted Indian-American hotelier and Chairman of Indian-American Democrats Sant Singh Chatwal at his Manhattan hotel here on Friday.

During the nearly hour-long meeting, the three discussed India-US bilateral relations, with Chatwal raising concerns of Indian IT corporations regarding problems faced by them in obtaining work visas like H1B and L1 for their employees.

Reid and Schumer expressed appreciation for the contribution made by the growing Indian-American community to the American economy, saying concerns regarding the visas are being addressed and taken care of.

If not, Schumer will be in trouble with his constituency, and this whole thing doesn't make sense at all. This would take money straight out of the hands of Americans.

5. There is no way I'd want to work in India

I'm female and 50 years old. My company won't allow US female workers to visit their site in Bangalore alone due to security risks for women.
While I would find their historic places intriguing, I don't like their food, so I'd personally have a hard time staying there.
One of my US male colleagues who visited India for a month a couple years ago was told which hotels to use because they could not guarantee the quality of the water in certain ones. Parasites could infect you while drinking or showering.

Anyway, I have pets at home and I could not stay away from them for a month or longer.

Americans are pretty much getting squeezed out on both fronts.

I for one wouldn't want to be unemployed in either country. Homeless folks here have to contend with drug-resistant tuberculosis...

Nothing against Indians, but qualified Americans can't get jobs. So why are we letting Indians and other workers in?

anyone else notice, that looking out for American workers seems to have been dropped from the democratic party platform?
