(3,222 posts)Is this airing somewhere or is it only on the internet? There really should be an outcry against this.

(12,530 posts)Yes, he's a vile piece of shit. But this is the perfect vehicle to bring up a twofold point, about his own religious extremism, which can easily be compared to that of Ahmadinejad, and also about the ease with which he lies, disrespecting the base he's trying to reach. Sure, there are some mouthbreathers who will eat this stuff up, but most Americans will recoil, knowing inside that even if they don't like Obama, this doesn't ring true. Fuck this misbegotten sheet stain.

(27,461 posts)My conversation with Rick Santorum spokesman Hogan Gidley about the new Santorum ad in which images of President Obama are interspersed with images of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:
Q: Is this moment when Ahmadenijad and Obama's images are interspersed meant to suggest that they are the same person?
Gidley: "Don't be ridiculous. He's the president of the United States, Ahmadenijad is the president of our sworn enemy. I'm don't know that it was 'interspersing,' I'm confused by that. Obviously I'm not trying to say anything about Obama and Ahamdenijad. So if we're not trying to say anything about that, then I don't understand the issue.
I think everybody knows -- our party and Rick has been very adimant and open and vocal about the fact that Barack Obama has been absolutely leading from behind as relates to Iran. He's the leader that deals with rogue nations, and Rick doesn't feel like that's something he should do. But, you know, the whole ad is based around the fact that, in two more years, this is what the country is going to look like.
Q: What is the country going to look like in two years?
Gidley: That's what the whole ad is saying: If we continue on the track we're continuing down, this country is going to be in a whole lot more trouble than it was in the first four years of his administration.
Q: And there's no suggestion here that Obama is Ahmadinehad?

(21,925 posts)I was a kid when that ad ran in 1964 and even though I supported Johnson and my parents were Dems, I had to later admit that it was pretty extreme in trying to overly frighten the entire nation. This ad not only seeks to scare the people shitless, with a style like a horror movie but it's also incredibly deceptive and manipulative, more so even than the GOP ad of a few years ago that bore a subliminal message of "RATS" worked into the footage in describing the Democratic party. Hopefully, this ad will not be nearly as effective as the Daisy ad.
Here's the Bush campaign's "rats" ad of 2000 for anyone who doesn't remember. The subliminal message occurs about 25 seconds in. I see that Republicans are still at it.
