Theory as to why (R)'s pushing for war with Iran.....

It would cause oil prices to skyrocket and thus throw the US economy into a depression or near depression resulting in Obama getting thrown out of office on election day in November.

So says Thom Hartmann.

Interesting theory.

7. Yes!

Occams Razor is a good analogy to explain why the repigs want war, and it's just as Hartmann said.

5. Just banging the drum for war with Iran helps the speculators drive up the price.

There are 2 reasons at play, I think. The economic benefit of high gas in the election year and their allegiance with RW elements in Israel in beating the war drum for a strike on Iran. The neo-cons still have Iran on their PNAC "to do" list.

6. The two existing wars are spooling down.

Gotta keep the war profits flowing somehow. Iran's as good a place as any to do that.

8. I don't know if it's the only reason

The GOP has ties to the oil companies and military contractors, and certainly war with Iran would benefit both of those groups, but hurting the economy to hurt Obama has been the name of the GOP's game since January 20, 2009, so I'm sure that's a part of it.

9. To be fair they have been beating that drum way before anyone heard of Obama.

I think greedy, evil, theocracy leaning authoritarians ever have all the reasons they need for a war.

They have been itching, poking hornet's nests, and calling for war with Iran for decades. Hell, just giving the oil to the extraction industry is more than enough reason and there are plenty where that came from.

10. No, war is being pushed by the Israel lobby.

US policy against Iran is essentially written by AIPAC.

I doubt Thom Hartmann will talk about that on his show due to his strong pro-Israel bias. Thom Hartmann actually condemned President Obama for mistreating Benjamin Netanyahu.
