Atlanta weather right now is

cold. Colder than it is in Sochi. But hoping, I suppose, that we don't get a repeat of our last storm, the Governor has already declared a state of emergency, schools and businesses are already closing, and the grocery stores are in full panic mode. We have no precipitation now but forecast is for maybe a half inch to two of ice. No matter. The whole area is going to grind to a halt anyway. Should we get nada, we'll be back on the news anyway.

2. An inch of ice is lots of ice.

It's much worse than an inch of snow.

It causes utter chaos even where winters are always cold.

Good luck Georgians!

3. We had about 2 inches of sleet from that storm last week in Conn.

First it was 6 inches of snow, then sleet, then 0.1 inches of freezing rain. If you didn't shovel it before it froze, you're screwed.

5. Bet Gubnor is in overalls out on roads with helpers prepared to catch every snow flake before

it hits ground. He's got his second chance, assuming it actually gets cold enough to snow or ice.

6. All the schools are closed already!

But, hey, that's OK. We don't have to get up at 6AM to see if my daughter's college classes are going to be canceled.

The state is literally shut down already and not a drop of anything has fallen. The Governor has declared a State of Emergency.

Now, granted, it's going to be a bad one if it lives up to the forecast - 6 inches of snow for me (that's a BLIZZARD in Georgia), followed by 2 days of ice storms.

But, Atlanta and the highways will be a ghost town this time.

9. ice is inarguable

when you can't walk to your car without sliding on ice, but you make it there, nevertheless, and then you can't get your key into the lock because it is frozen under ice, it begins to dawn on you that you should just slither back to your door, go in, and fill containers with water, find candles, and matches. Find blankets, they become gold, may as well put on some soft clothes, find something you want to do , and stay put. there is nowhere to go . its just a few days. meet your neighbors and become friends, hunker down. if power goes out eat all ice cream, and the other stuff, you could put outside.

10. We have about 22 inches of snow and some drifts that are around 36 inches

and I'd much rather have that much snow with more on the way than any amount of ice.

Good luck and I hope everyone bracing for this storm keeps safe.
