Now that I have kids I find myself holding back tears at the Trayvon Martin shooting
I thought it was over,
I thought the attitude was over...I never thought that people would stop being antagonistic against my child cause of the color of his skin. RECENT studies show that if your child is a black or Hispanic male they are 3 times more likely to be put out of school than white males (LINK) who enact similar infractions. People are people, I don't think it's cynical to say that but we can support people who will protect the statistical minorities against said human nature.
What I thought was over was the attitude that you could kill a person partially or wholly because of their skin color and even THINK about getting away with it.
The recent witness's that came out against Zimmerman alone would spell an arrest for 99.9% of men of darker color skin.
An A-\B+ white student getting shot by a person of color wouldn't have even shown up in the news, the shooter would've been thrown under the jail by now.
It shouldn't take the federal government to get involved in cases like this...
We ALL still have some fighting to do...not as much as my parents but what I do have to fight is in my face now...
I choose to battle whats left
