Does the Sanford Police Department controversy sound familiar? It should.

http://www.wftv.com/news/news/cops-son-accused-of-beating-man-walks-out-of-jail/nKJgK/

This is the same department that dragged its feet when a police lieutenant's son punched out a black homeless man in an unprovoked attack a few months ago. The video showing the attack went viral, and it was only after intense pressure that the authorities issued an arrest warrant in the case.

<snip>
Despite the punch and many eyewitnesses, Collison was never arrested by the Sanford Police Department, where his father is a lieutenant.

Officers on scene never handcuffed him or even patted him down. They said accounts of the fight were conflicting.

Does this sound familiar?

. . to blow as much smoke up our collective asses as he could.

But, at the end of the day, there's a dead black boy . . and no one in jail for it.
And that ain't right.

I used to live in Sanford. The city has a large minority population, and much of the area is very poor. They don't deserve this kind of inept, racist law enforcement.

It's unfortunate that the majority in population is the minority in political power in this town. From the city to the county we are not diversely represented. Take a stroll and visit the county office in Sanford you tell me. The Chief's arrogance towards the community his servers is reprehensible. I think he forgets that he is here to serve and protect the people of this community.

It is unfortunate that his investigator ( and co-signed by the Chief) simply thought this was an open shut case and never bothered to represent the true victim that could not speak for himself.

Listened to the tape tonight that they uncovered him saying "fucking coon (or puke)" on the tape. That, combined with the "these assholes" would provide all of the self-incriminating evidence that they need to prosecute this as a hate crime, IMHO.

You can hear it hear around the 2:22 mark as he's getting out of the car...it sounds like he's talking quietly to himself.

Charles M. Blow @CharlesMBlow
RT @BlackElleWoods ... someone said it sounds like he said "punks" not coons. I think it's possible he said punks too. < I hope that's it.
