Prohibition required bigger government. More federal agents, more cases on the courts dockets, more search warrants, more midnight raids, more people in prison and that stuff did not come for free. When it became clear that existing laws were too hard to enforce, more laws were passed to enforce the existing laws, and so on and on.
I'm sure he could just have the FBI take people off of terrorism investigations to crack down on the real national security threat: porn.

(44,173 posts)That could very well happen. If you have the government banning porn on the internet and threatening mere downloaders, then I could see porn speakeasys springing up: places where there are no internet connections, but a lot of dirty old men with key drives and non-internet connected computers trading their stuff.

(51,666 posts)One can make a tidy sum as a professional dominatrix, and there is no sex or porn involved.
That will be my Plan B in case he wins. Oh, and liberals will get to play for free. Conservatives will pay $300+/hr.

(102,225 posts)I have my own issues with the porn industry and its impact on women, but I'm not into censorship and I surely would not want to see where this would all end. I would bet his intent is to Disneyfy Hollywood as well. This guy is so extremist, I doubt he would condone R-rated movies.
It may not be on Mitt's radar, but don't think for a moment he isn't equally regressive and repressive in his "plans" for our future.

I can't believe a politician would run on this.... I would actively canvas against this guy if this issue was on the line.

(100,063 posts)Personally I don't care if someone uses it or not and I don't like going to strip clubs, but declaring war on porn would seriously cripple the first amendment, and I would get pissed if that were attempted. I'm so sick of the GOP making every single fucking issue a religious one, and it's getting quite disgusting that it's coming to this. It's becoming like the Taliban took over the GOP.

(35,437 posts)To folks like Rick Santorum, "Sex and the City" is pure porn. In fact, most premium cable shows would be porn. The MPAA just gave an "R" rating to a movie about teen bullying because it used the word "fuck" too many times.
In the end, it's impossible to define "porn".
