In Madison, 1,000 Singers Defy Walker’s Edict

http://www.progressive.org/in_madison_1000_singers_defy_walker_edict.html#.Tu_Chw-UXqh.mailto

..snip..

Despite Gov. Scott Walker’s edict that no more than three people can gather inside the capitol for a demonstration without a permit, about 1,000 people joined the Solidarity Sing-along at noon on Monday.

The sing-along, which has been occurring, Monday through Friday, for the past ten months, had its largest crowd since the earliest days of anti-Walker protests.

Signs dangled from the balconies (a practice also prohibited by Walker’s edict). One said: “This is a test of the Emergency Free Speech system.”

A thousand people in open defiance, and what's he going to do about it? Send in State Police to brutalize them? Right before a recall election?

After the Sing Along, a bunch of us went over by the Governor's Conference Room and chanted and sang. It felt good to let off a little steam.

by the way, I carried a big "Recall Walker" sign, and on the flip side, I had a portion of the Wisconsin Constitution:

ARTICLE 1, SECTION 22. Maintenance of free government. The blessings of a free government can only be maintained by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality and virtue, and by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.

This articulates my commitment to our State, and points out how far the current administration has strayed from what our State stands for.

Never prouder of my Beautiful Wisconsin. I was all prepared to get proudly arrested, too!

Stand up, Badgers, sing!
"Forward" is our driving spirit,
Loyal voices ring.
On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Raise her glowing flame
Stand, Fellows, let us now
Salute her name!

Thank you, Badger State, for showing the way.

Will be a great game between two great teams, one from a state with an awesome governor!

As a proud Oregonian, I am doubly proud to share this planet with Wisconsin citizens working to save our democracy.
