3. Who Stole The American Dream - Video - Book - Powell Memo

"The promise of a prosperous middle-class life with decent work, rising living standards, and the potential for a better future has long been the foundation of the American dream. But as America continues to struggle to recover from the Great Recession, it has become clear that the middle class is in jeopardy -- and many of the policies of the last 40 years are to blame.

Examining the political, legislative, and corporate choices that have pushed the middle class to the brink, Pulitzer Prize- and Emmy Award-winning journalist, producer, and bestselling author Hedrick Smith details the story of this demise. In his new book, Who Stole the American Dream?, Mr. Smith analyzes how "pro-business" policies dismantled the previous American social contract and tells the stories of the people who have been left behind. ..."

Here's Glenn on the subject earlier this year:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/feb/19/msnbc-axelrod-gibbs-obama

Chris Hayes regularly criticizes Obama from the left while, post-election, Rachel Maddow sometimes does the same).

From the interview apperently in question:

"Not everyone on MSNBC does that 24 hours a day," Welker interjected. "No, not everybody, but a lot of people on MSNBC do," Greenwald said.

Greenwald clarified that he wasn't talking about everyone.

Here is Rachel defending Greenwald in August: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/08/19/1232435/-Rachel-Maddow-on-David-Miranda-and-the-White-House

By the way, reaction from this discredited website, where BOTH Maddow and Greenwald are trashed:

http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2013/08/dear-rachel-maddow-terrorism-under-veil.html

Rachel goes on an "insane rant!" don't you know.

Here is Greenwald interviewing Maddow about her book "Drift:" http://www.salon.com/2012/04/04/interview_with_rachel_maddow

42. So, in other words, you can't defend what you posted.

I've never said you can't criticize Greenwald. He's actually using some lazy hyperbole here to make a valid or at least debatable point. But he HAS clarified the point previously and it didn't include how much Rachel Maddow sucks. What I have said and implied is you don't get to criticize Greenwald by making stuff up, because you can't see beyond cult of personality. If you are looking for "agenda," there you go.

I have been a big fan of Rachel for a long time, posting her stuff here long before she ever had a TV show, and will defend her when necessary. But you, apparently, would not be aware of that, since you seem to know nothing about me beyond what you want to make up in your head about me.

43. "cult of personality"

Something you read on websites like Free Republic.

Your slip is really showing.

Not only do you use right wing memes, but you always seem to show up in threads to defend someone who is attacking Obama.

I'm merely pointing it out.

46. Yes, it is.

The right wing constantly refers to Obama supporters as cult followers and they have since 2008.

Lo and behold, there you go referencing "cult of personality".

Add that to the constant defense of Obama haters like Greenwald and I think it's pretty obvious where you stand.

47. Not in the context I was using it.

But, then, you don't care, do you? Congratulations, you took an thread-jack attack on Greenwald in a thread that wasn't even about him, and absurdly extended it to an implication that I am a troll, and managed to throw in Barack Obama, too (when no one was talking about him), without even managing to defend your original point.

Do you have any idea how silly it makes you look to imply that I am a troll to all the many, many people here who know absolutely that I'm not?

20. Speaking of that... try this thread out. I posted on it with a few others...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/101681251

It'd be funny is so many hadn't fallen for the lies, and lost their souls to greed and bigotry. From the link, but the entire piece is worth the read, to understnad the depths of the depravity and the dangerous hypocrisy of the GOP:

A Christmas Speculation

Here are the passages I found in which Jesus tells his followers that they have a duty to take care of children, the poor, and other vulnerable people:

Matthew 18:6, 18:10, 19:21, 23:14, and 25:31-46; Mark 9:36-37, 10:21, and 12:40; and Luke 10:30-37, 11:41, 12:33, 14:12-14, 18:22, and 20:47.

Here are the passages in which Jesus tells his followers to pay their taxes without complaining:

Matthew 5:42, 17:24-27, and 22:19-21; Mark 12:14-17; and Luke 6:30 and 20:21-25.

Here are the passages in which Jesus tells his followers that they arenít supposed to obsess about other peopleís sins, but should leave that to God, and attend to their own moral failings instead:

Matthew 7:1-5 and 9:10-13; Mark 2:15-17; Luke 6:37, 6:41-42, 7:44-48, 15:2, 18:10-14, and 19; and John 8:2-11.

And here are the passages in which Jesus tells his followers to blame the poor and vulnerable for their plight, direct benefits toward the already well-to-do at the expense of everyone else, refuse to pay their fair share of taxes, and obsessively denounce and punish the sins of people they donít like while finding every opportunity to excuse their own sins and those of their friends:

19. Is it too much to ask

for rank-and-file Republicans (and conservatives in general) to stop for a minute and ask themselves why anyone would want to be poor and without basic necessities? For real, even when someone like Limbaugh who makes roughly $50M a year gets taxed at an Eisenhower rate, he or she would still have a few millions to blow, compared to someone like me who has no job and has to rely on monthly government checks to pay for groceries and the rent that are less than a thousand dollars.
I don't get people who vote like that who aren't rich. I really don't.

to do with being brainwashed by those like Limbaugh, Jamaal. And, I don't think it's only confined to America.

It's a human phenomena.. that listening and watching shows for suckers is more important to them than having health care and the benefits that would help them.. if they weren't too busy making misspelled signs accusing President Obama of "Socialism!".

31. When history writes the story of how this government of, by, and for the people shirked its mandate

to promote the general welfare by almost exclusively pandering to the uber-wealthy and large corporations at the detriment of the rest of society, the story will be one of the ugliest, most ruthlessly corrupt abrogations of duty ever perpetrated imo.

40. When I am faced with theoretical theories and speculation, I like to extrapolate them out to the Nth

degree. Or reduce them to the lowest possible denominator. In this instance I would reduce the theory of economics down to the most basic scenario possible such as maybe ten people stranded on a desert island.
If only one person has all the money, how do the others survive? If that one person should happen to hire the baddest dude on the island as his "enforcer" (for a minimum wage, of course) then the rest are at the mercy of the one with all the occurrence.
However, if the wealth is more evenly spread out between them, there is room for growth, progress, and cooperation. Any of them are enabled to become as rich as possible, but they all have a vested interest in the community and progress is much more likely.
This does not take a degree in economics to figure out.
