Is this Sherpa calculator for Obamacare accurate???

Is this Sherpa calculator for Obamacare accurate???

I plugged in for a family of 4: 10,000 40,000 50,000 and 100,000 and it says every time that "you make too much to qualify for ACH and the price they quote is around 7,000 annually for different companies for the cost.

This is nothing like the Keiser foundation's calculator nor what I have heard on this site. The premiums are way high compared to Keiser.

I then did a Google search and found nothing bad about them and Daily Kos saying they were great.

I am confused.

The ACA was not created for those that already have insurance, especially employer paid Bandit Dec 2013 #3
Yeah, I know it wasn't created for people with employer based insurance. onpatrol98 Dec 2013 #5

I tried both and the amounts were similar. One said I would pay no more than an amount. I think the other gave me a specific amount.

I'm praying even more now than before the ACA that I can keep my employer based healthcare. At the rate they quoted me, I would have to drop my insurance. I sure as heck wouldn't be able to afford it.

Not to mention, I'm hearing rumblings that employer based plans might be the next plans affected negatively. So, I've got my fingers crossed.

I love it that so many people are going from uninsured to insured. But, I would hate to go from insured to uninsured in the same wave.

Talk about irony.

If you make over 400% of the poverty level you don't qualify for ACA and if you live in a state that has not expended Medicaid you might not qualify.

And, I live in a state that did not expand Medicaid. So, me re-posting may not be very helpful. Not to mention, since I have employer based care, it wouldn't give me an amount initially.

I was just assuming that if there's an algorithm behind those numbers, it wouldn't make much of a difference between the two calculators. It should be similar in both places.

But, I must admit. At first, I thought one was cheaper than the other. But, I think it was how the numbers and categories were set up. On one of the sites I think they showed that lower end rate as soon as the site pulled up for me. But, when I scrolled down, the larger numbers were further down the page.

insurance. It was designed for those that do not have insurance. It was to be able to obtain the same huge discounts that employers like IBM or Cysco are able to obtain for their employees. When you can get a huge group discount as the ACA does it makes insurance much more affordable for those without at the moment. I do believe down the road more and more employers are going to discontinue providing insurance for their employees, since it is no longer such a draw to attract good employees. I think we are going to end up in a much better place for our nation when it comes to Health Care.. It may take another decade or two but we are headed in the right direction.

I was just wondering what would happen if my employer suddenly decided it was cheaper for them to stop providing insurance.

It's primarily a fear of the unknown more than anything.

Murphy's Law follows me around and knows me by name.

Do you have an income above the poverty level?

If the answer to those things is Yes and No, in that order. You are probably getting a correct statement on cost.

Those of us who live in poverty in those places are 'screwed' by the combination of GOP war on the poor and the "fairshare" mandate.

even though they only give you a general idea.

I hope they are actually cheaper because this is gonna fuck up my life.

We make too much for my daughter to get much in the way of scholarships /student aid for college. Consequently now my insurance is going to be so high I will have to just pay ins and cannot help her out for school.

Funny thing is, I have a police retirement pension and I can actually quit my job and do better with the lower pay (pension only), lower ins premium, and my daughter will be eligible for some free money...

Now if I can only accept the fact that in order for me to do all this, I have to game the system, quit a job and my daughter will snag a scholarship from someone who needs it more...
