I am going to check that out. I've run into an issue of only ever finding two to three opinions on anything, with even the same verbiage regurgitated on numerous web sites. I like to be able to access more information than that.

I knew for certain I had read in the past / years ago about the background link between the ITT and US involvement in Chile in 1973 - that's other than the obvious fact that ITT were big into copper at the time. Subsequently I referred to it here on occasions but could never find the article - it was buried.

Using millionshort , as per your OP , and discarding the first million I now find it easily :

"In particular, the president was aware that the owner of Chile's phone company, ITT Corporation, was illegally channelling funds into Republican Party coffers. Nixon could not ignore ITT--and ITT wanted blood. An ITT board member, ex-CIA director John McCone, pledged Kissinger $1 million in support of CIA action to prevent Allende from taking office.

"Separately, Anaconda Copper and other multinationals, under the aegis of David Rockerfeller's Business Group for Latin America, offered £500,000 to buy influence with Chilean congressmen to reject confirmation of Allende's victory."
