"Fuck Harry Reid."

I've said it plenty of times, and with good reason.

And then the Shutdown Showdown happened, and the man stood tall.

And then this happened today.

There's a great big fat hairy reason to feel like it should have happened a while ago.

But it happened.

Thanks, Harry. My opinion of you has undergone a remarkable transformation in the last several weeks.

Keep it up.

21. No, they haven't.

This can only delay the vote by 2 days. Senate leadership can schedule a vote whether or not the committee has voted. The best the Republicans can do is delay that by a day.

So one day to not show up.
One day to block the vote
The vote happens.

My girlfriend doesn't congratulate me when I mow the lawn, and she shouldn't. It's what I'm supposed to do in the first place (though, I do try like hell to get out of it).

13. Reid has always been on my good guy list.

But just because he pulled the trigger this time doesn't mean we will get any progress. The Republicans are refusing to attend committee meetings now, which means there won't be a quorum to approve nominations.

This may not give us what we thought it would. Things could get even worse from here on out.

TECT in the name of the Representative approves of this post.

47. Reid does know, always, what way the wind is blowing, especially if it concerns the vote. Makes

sense that he felt he would get the necessary votes. After all that is the most important function of the Congress.

Whatever miracle it required, he was the Sen Majority Leader at the helm when it happened. Go Harry, and all who were responsible for finally doing something about the filibuster rule that the Republicans have rammed down this country's neck for many many many years. First steps are the hardest, I guess. Could have gone further, but at least they can now fill POs nominee appointments!

I used to thing so poorly of Harry Reid. . . I had the impression he was a spineless dishrag.

I've been so pleased with him these last couple of years that he's completely redeemed himself in my view. He's not afraid to tell it like it is, and he can fight like hell! The only other one I think who's more wonderfully combative than Reid is the lovely Nancy Pelosi-- I love her!

41. I think there's more substance to that than you might think

Gridlock wasn't pleasing anybody but the other side.

OK, we've now given them a little ammo for the next election round, but only enough to please their die-hard extremists.

Reid tried EVERYTHING leading up to this, and the other side always ended up spitting in has face, figuring he didn't have the guts to go nuclear, as it had far-reaching potential effects down the road. Well, guess what? Pulling 46% of the Senate filibusters in history during Obama's presidency turned out to be far-reaching, too. We, the voters who elect Democratic candidates had had enough. Elected officials (at least those whose names aren't Elizabeth Warren) don't usually react immediately to voter exasperation. But at some point they do.

We voters don't have to face Mitch McTurtle or Ted Cruz across the aisle every at the office. Reid does. I doubt he made this decision lightly, and I doubt McConnell thought he'd ever do it. But we natives were starting to get restless, and I think Reid finally decided that the cavalry wasn't coming, and the only option left was to become the cavalry. So he did. Now it's up to us to become the electoral fort that makes this worth having done. If the Republicans take the Senate next year (and believe me, they will now try EVERY dirty trick in the book plus a thousand more that aren't in the book yet), it will be a very short-lived victory.

Reid did indeed finally come through for us. We'd do well to respond in kind next year.

39. Hopefully,

the democratic party has realized that the majority of Americans want a Democratic party.

IMO. Sanders and Warren have played a major role in this transformation.

It would seal the deal if Obama scrapped the TPP on his own.

and it's a not inconsiderable one. He finally managed to get enough Democrats to stand with him and say "no more."

Thank you, Harry Reid. It was time for the filibuster to go and you accomplished it.

I will admit, I am one of those who would probably have shown you out the door a long time ago, along with Joe Manchin, Debbie Wasserman-Schulz, and other DINOs.

However, you finally grew a spine. Several years way too late, but you did.

Let me be blunt, if this is the new direction, I will support you, but if you backslide, I will resume the calls to throw you out and replace you with someone that will attack.

46. Harry Reid was a boxer and boxing ...

seems quaint compared to UFC. Reid was trying to play by rules that aren't in effect anymore.

As long as Democrats keep the public interest as their focus, we have nothing to fear from these changes.

In the meantime, KICK THEM IN THE BALLS HARRY!!! And change the rules so a simple majority can pass legislation. That'll force the Republicans to talk about legislation. And when they have to do that; they have nothing.

48. Reid is a practical man. He eye is alway on the VOTE, that's what it takes to get things done.

Reid has been putting up with the obstructionists just like Obama has had to do. Better to not waste time on a vote if you can't anticipate a winning vote.
