Palin: Obama Wants To Return To The "Days Before The Civil War" When People Weren't Considered Equal

Yes, that's right. The nation's first black President wants to bring America back to the days before the Civil War according to Sarah Palin.

PALIN: Well, what we can gleam from this is an understanding of why we are all on the road that we are on and it's based on what went into his thinking, being surrounded by radicals. He is bringing us back Sean to days that... you can harken back to days before the Civil War, when unfortunately too many Americans mistakenly believed that not all men were created equal. And it was the Civil War that began the codification of the truth here in America... yes, we are equal and we all have equal opportunities, not based on the color of your skin.

You have equal opportunities to work hard and to succeed and to embrace the opportunities, god given opportunities to develop resources and work extremely hard and as I say, to succeed.

Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.

Why are we allowing our country to move backwards instead of moving forward with that understanding that as our charters of liberty spell out for us, we are all created equally.

Roy-You're right she has exhibited some rather breathtaking displays of stupid over the last few years. How ever I must politely disagree with you on one point--She doesn't need more slack she needs less. As I see it ignorance is forgivable. Ignorance is not knowing something because you n ever had the opportunity to learn. Stupidity is simply choosing not to learn. So I say, we need to cut her less slack and not more lest her incredible aptitude for self delusion spread like some kind of fungal infection.

On so many levels — none of them healthy — Sarah Palin is reliable beyond all reasonable expectations. If you want a public utterance that'll leave 'em scratching their heads, if you're looking for wacky, garbled, half-true, ahistorical, syntactically lethal, and altogether crackbrained, Sarah's your girl.

History is going to remember her part in steering the Republican Party onto the rocks.

It's so utterly backwards and hypocritical and typical of Republican propaganda - they always accuse Democrats of doing what REPUBLICANS themselves are doing. If we had a media with any interests besides corprat profit, they'd nail these idiots on this propaganda. They'd say "well it sounds to me like this is what the Republicans are trying to do - getting rid of civil rights laws, taking away women's rights..." - anyone in the media can challenge this rhetoric - but they don't.

At least Dan Quayle and Dubya had some shame. With Palin, every sentence drips with a contempt for knowledge and an ambition for power, like she's soaked in both vices. Never mind she doesn't know the difference between gleam and glean. You somehow know that back story there: if anyone has ever informed her she's simply rejected it and treated that person with contempt and soon people gave up.

How does anybody reach that point? By being a despicable human being. She makes Limbaugh look intelligent and even compassionate. Ugh.

Come now, we have to give Palin SOME credit for her complete lack of bigotry. She is obviously oblivious to the fact that President Obama is half black. She apparently never heard of him referred to as "our first black president." In the days before and after the Civil War, even a dash of Negro blood made one Black, and and obviously this still holds true, since we don't refer to the president as "mixed racial." Sarah has shown by her remarks that she is So above that!

It's not so much that she's stupid. The GOP's strategy to go after the Black vote is to try and scare us into thinking the Democrats are evil, but no person in their right mind is going to fall for it. Black folks overall have always overwhelmingly chosen the more liberal candidate in a presidential election.

As always, conservatives use fear in order to get ahead. For example, they love to bring up the Southern Dixiecrats of yesteryear, and how Lincoln supposedly wanted to free to slaves...but on the contrary, he didn't even consider Blacks and Whites equal. He simply did it as an attempt to get more votes. And if you take a look at the stances the D's stand for vs the R's nowadays, they're closer to being the party that wants to take us back to prior Civil Rights.

As I affectionately say, a Black person (or any minority, for that matter) voting for a Republican today is akin to a chicken's vote for Colonel Sanders for president.

That's right, in the 2008 election the pundits and the McCain campaign were not allowed to bring up the radical people that Obama associated with.

122. The words worked for someone else. Why won't they work for her?
Fri Mar 9, 2012, 12:46 PM
Mar 2012

THIS question is the profound unfairness that the Tea Party struggles with daily.

Words aren't magic spells. They need some connection with the physical world, and with others' experiences. When you start giving INDIVIDUAL words magic power (otherwise known as taboo) you lose your ability to think about that subject. This works when, like taboo works historically, it keeps people who don't understand why something like pooping in their water supply is wrong, but have to be kept from doing it anyways, from pooping in their own water. If no one in the culture has "bacteria" as a concept, "evil spirit" works better than nothing at all. If you start using it for things that aren't actually harmful, eventually someone sees through it and you have trouble, because taboo is irrational and people will kill over it.

I'd swear that the way many right-wingers talk, that they learned debate from one of my English instructors, who taught that the way to enter a professional or scientific conversation was to learn to imitate the moves they made with their language. You don't need to understand the concepts, you just need to arrange them in the proper order.

Fri Mar 9, 2012, 12:53 PM
Mar 2012

"Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin".

Her "out" clause is she plugged in the word "seems" but she is claiming Obama wants to segregate "based on color of skin". In her prior sentence those "days" were before the Civil War, which means slavery.

From here it is only speculation but what she seems to be saying is that the Federal government will be the slave master and that hard working white males will be the new slaves. That would also mean that whites would only count 3/5 when assigning Congressional seats, etc.

What I don't understand is why Palin wasn't asked to explain what she meant when she said it seems that Obama wants separation based on color of skin and to give a single example of where that has either been called for or actually happened. We all know that English is a second language for Palin and that is why she constantly needs to be asked to explain herself.

What the hell does that twit know about "hard work"? When was the last time she actually had to do any? What the hell does she know about "equality", or, "equal opportunities"? She has been a member of the elite wealthy for so long I think she has forgotten what "hard work" actually is. It's a brutal grind that can and will exhaust your mind and body to the core, working for little money without health benefits, without much of what people like Palin take for granted. I wonder if the woman has ever studied history, even our own American history.

Want to talk about hard work Palin? How about how for centuries whites (like you and I) in this Country built so much of it's wealth and power on the backs of slaves. People who were seen as different and inferior because of their skin color - views that many like Palin still hold to. That means working without being given the choice, working hard for someone because if you did not you could be beaten, killed, brutally raped or treated in any fashion that your "master" decided you should be.

You damn idiots (the you is in reference to those like Palin) think it's slave labor to have to pay taxes that a small portion of goes to support the people in this Country that desperately need help. You haven't got a clue what slave labor actually is. I strongly suspect that you haven't got a clue what it means to work hard, either.

You think Obama wants to take us back to the days before the civil war? Why don't you actually read a history book or three before you open your mouth about such things? If you think we have "equal opportunities" in truth, give away your wealth to charity and start over, working 9 to 5 for minimum wage in a job without benefits. Try struggling for once, try wondering and worrying where your next meal is coming from, whether you'll be able to buy life saving medication or heat your home in the heart of a freezing cold winter, whether you'll be able to feed your children. Try being poor, I dare you - then you can talk to us about equal opportunity.

I do not say that we are not equal. Rather, I say that we should have the right to equal opportunity under the law. This is not so, i large part because those like Palin are blinded by ignorance and a lack of understanding of how things actually work for most of us in this Country. I think we have the wealth and power to feed, clothe and shelter everyone in this Country. I think we have the ability to turn around poor neighborhoods, to care for others, to use what means we have charitably and well for the benefit of everyone.

As long as some continue to revel in their ignorance, their lack of charity, knowledge and understanding... we will never come close to meeting our true potential as a Nation. Palin is really so blind that she has no clue she is part of the problem.

Fri Mar 9, 2012, 06:28 PM
Mar 2012

How fascinating indeed that Palin would make the comment such as 'Why are we allowing our country to move backwards instead of moving forward with that understanding that as our charters of liberty spell out for us, we are all created equally' Sarah Palin is a Neocon-a member of a political entity devoted to creating a neo-aristocratic society on a global scale founded on the merit of nothing more than personal wealth and influence. A society in which a form of pseudo-nobility exists. Why then does she make the comment that Obama seeks to return to the days when not all men were equal? Is it not clear that in the global empire of the power elite that a few men (and yes-generally speaking they are men, typically white men (I am white by the way in case anyone is wondering so I am not posting a racist remark-simply a true one) control 99.99 percent or more of the global wealth. It seems as though The Palin cannot see the forest through the trees. If that is not unequal I am not quite sure what is..

She reminds me of the vain, cruel social climbing girls I had the misfortune to encounter when I was in high school. (Incidentally, they were all good little Republicans. ) I have absolutely no respect for Sarah Palin.
