The fact that the video wasn't the least bit shocking is irrelevant. It shows Obama had good relationship with Derrick Bell and thats all the right wing needs, they can handle the rest. The rest is they will now launch a smear campaign against a dead professor to paint him as a radical, racist, America hater. I just googled Derrick Bell because frankly I had never heard of him either until yesterday. Google results immediately bring up right wing blogs who have just begun the smear campaign. Conservative acquaintances I know are already blowing up facebook and other websites with the link to Breitbart. Make no mistake, this isn't going to go away. The right doesn't actually need a controversy when they can easily manufacture one.
It'll galvanize more of his African-American base to his support than it will interest any significant number of voters outside of the republican party's wing of nuts who go for this sort of thing.

Ask Susan Fluke.
Ask the Tides Foundation.
Ask Frances Fox Piven.
Ask Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Ask Anita Hill.
If they have to smear someone or something to "win" and push their agenda, then they will launch into a smear campaign. The dittoheads and Freepers will eat it up and vomit it back at whoever they are in front of because it shows they know everything and are right all the time (in a sane world I'd add "in their dreams", but we don't live in one and they do it while they're wide awake).

(135,425 posts)who Derrick Bell was and won't bother to take the time to "do the Google" as you did. They can have fun pounding on a dead man if they'd like--it gets kind of old after awhile when the dead guy won't answer them.
They'll probably, because they are stupid, and because they can't be bothered with The Google, think he had some connection with Archie Bell and the Drells--and I think we should foster that misapprehension, just to screw with them:

Ah, that's the ticket. No, dammit, that's science education - obviously eevul, but not the right kind of eevul for this. How about:

(4,033 posts)After I read your post.....
I knocked on my mom's bedroom door to ask her this question. "What was Derrick Bell like in High School?" Mom ( a white woman), answered, "Oh he was super nice, I had a lot of classes with him, as we sat alphabetically, he was never more than 2 or 3 seats away and he was Vice President of our class." I then asked "do you think he could be considered a great American radical and a danger to society?" "Hell no" was her response

Of course, they can attack him more easily since he's dead now. But they really should read "The Space Invaders" -- except they'll probably think it's a good idea!
