Hunger Games Theme Parks Are Coming, Because Nothing Says Fun Like Children Fighting to the Death

Some days the news is just surreal.

Shoot an arrow through the heart of your opponent and win a stuffed animal!

If you were starting to wonder if Hollywood could possibly squeeze any more money out of the Hunger Games franchise, shame on you for doubting them. Lionsgate is now in talks to develop theme parks based on the popular series, Variety reports. The entertainment company’s CEO Jon Feltheimer made the announcement Friday morning.

“We have been approached in two different territories about potential theme park opportunities, which gives you a sense of the cultural impact of this franchise,” Feltheimer told analysts on a conference call. He said they were “pursuing” those opportunities, but beyond that, didn’t offer too many additional details.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second film in the series — based on the dystopian novels by Suzanne Collins — opens worldwide on Nov. 22. No word yet on when these theme parks will open, but here’s hoping they’ll include sweet roller coasters that allow you to shoot arrows and blow things up in midair.

1. My teenage daughter talked me into

seeing the first Hunger Games film and I found it very creepy and disturbing. Maybe I'm just old, but I find no entertainment value in kids stalking and killing each other.

3. It's your standard dystopian survival fiction

Been done to death before, too. Lord of the Flies, Battle Royale, etc.

It's an addictive genre for young people who haven't been exposed to it. The writing in Hunger Games is mediocre.

4. It's a story of the 1% unleashed, it should be creepy and disturbing, the culture we live in is

similar in many ways. You and I send young people to die in wars and others are asked to use remote control to kill people they are told are the enemy. The rich kids don't go to war. Poor kids do. Congress cut food aid this week.
The next two books are about revolution against that system. I think they are great youth fiction.

2. Ever seen the web TV show, "Job Hunters"?

&feature=share&list=PL72EAB03190B86D18

It is a dystopian future where teenagers have to fight for job opportunities. They had 6 episodes in season 1, all available on youtube. The 2nd season will begin later this Fall. Highly recommend.
