2. Their mantra is "Government doesn't work"

So this is no surprise.

3. Do people no longer get day after Thanksgiving off anymore?

I always got both days at most every job I have ever held (with the obvious exception of the US Navy, FTN unionize now!).

5. ...I forgot about that, lots more of those folks around lately.

Worked Baskin Robbins, technically food service but that's a retail subset. Also worked at a hardware store after the dotcom crash, but they got rid of me one week before my health care would have activated...

8. I'll be working in the hospital lab on Thanksgiving this year

and then working at my shitty financial call center the day after Thanksgiving this year.

Last year I was scheduled to work both on Christmas Day and on the Winter Solstice, so I couldn't celebrate either pagan Yule or Christmas.

6. 2014-113 days, 2013-126 days, 2012-107 days

That's average for these schmucks.

Would like to see how the days work fluctuate when between parties but I can't find that info.

7. Well, kissing all that ass WILL tend to cut into productive time a little.

And they've got to do SOMETHING to keep busy while ALEC is writing up the next piece of legislation they're expected to introduce.

Zombies have a better work ethic. As a matter of fact, Americans prefer zombies, hemorrhoids, IRS to Congress
