I'm sad about DK, but somehow I think he'll be back. He's a fighter.

(6,996 posts)In 2005 Rep. John Murtha, who had been a Marine colonel in the Viet Nam war, called for all American troops to be withdrawn from Iraq.
On the House floor Schmidt said of Murtha, "Cowards cut and run..."
Ugly and mean doesn't begin to describe her.

(72,631 posts)Congressman Dennis Kucinich and his wife Elizabeth Jane Kucinich speak to supporters at Rubin's Family Restaurant & Deli in Cleveland. THE BLADE/AMY E. VOIGT
<snip>
Mr. Kucinich returned to a Cleveland restaurant to announce he had lost, again thank supporters, but also had harsh words for Miss Kaptur of Toledo.
"I would like to be able to congratulate Congresswoman Kaptur but I do have to say that she ran a media campaign in the Cleveland media market that was utterly lacking in integrity with false statements half truths, [and] misrepresentations," he said. "I hope that is not the kind of representation she would provide to this community. And I don't think the people of Toledo have any idea of the kind of campaign that was run up in the Cleveland area."

(12,751 posts)Plus, the cushy Congressional salary.
I'd expect no less from an politician who has always been more keen to advance the personal political advancement of Dennis Kucinich, than the agenda of the Democratic Party.
The fact that he is pissing on the Democratic nominee who defeated him in the primary for the congressional seat she will now contest surprises me not in the least: Kucinich has always been selfish, petty, and spiteful in that way.

(57,936 posts)He follows his conscience and has proved that he cannot be bought and will not run from intimidation. Unfortunately, he was running against another good Democrat, Marcy Kaptur. One of them had to lose so that one of them could win. I hope that Dennis Kucinich will find another roll in American politics. He is a great man and a great American. We need his example, his wisdom, his moral force.

(12,751 posts)that routinely embarrass the Democratic Party on a national level.
UFO's - really? Vegan-chic - really? "Chemtrails" as some kind of existential threat requiring legislative action - really? One could go on and on about the silliness that constituted the legislative agenda of Perennial Presidential candidate and only sometime Congressman Dennis Kuchinich.
And that latter point is actually the most important: he was a crappy representative on behalf of his constituents. Ohio Democrats will be vastly better off thanks to his involuntary retirement from the U.S. Congress thanks to the primary results tonight.

(72,631 posts)Through his various governmental positions and campaigns, Kucinich has attracted attention for consistently delivering "the strongest liberal" perspective.[2] This perspective has been shown by his actions, such as bringing articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, and being the only Democratic candidate in the 2008 election to have voted against invading Iraq.

It doesn't.

(34,825 posts)take a look in the fucking mirror. DK never EVER brought up UFOs. it was shirley mclaine that mentioned it and the "librul" media that ran with it.

(12,751 posts)and she simply reported that fact in her autobiography. When asked about it in one of the Democratic presidential debates, "DK" confirmed what she had written, and further made himself look ridiculous.
Yet another example of an "DK" fan, consumed with bitterness, engaging in rank dishonesty.

(6,238 posts)Someone who has stood by his principles ever since he got to D.C. Someone who opposed the Patriot Act, someone whose views on torture, illegal wars, etc. does not change depending on what letter the President has by his name. It's a bad sign when people care more about advancing the agenda of a party than the country.

(23,973 posts)Dennis ran as, and was elected as a socially conservative, anti-gay marraige, anti-abortion candidate and congressman, and held those views and voted that way until until he decided to run for president.
He knew that those would be losing issues on the national scene, so he discarded them completely in order to garner votes, but up until 2002/2003, voted quite conservatively on almost every social issue.
You can say that he finally saw the light, or you can also say he made a strategic decision in order to further his political career.
The only real agenda Kucinich ever had.

(254 posts)anything less during his concession speech? The man possesses absolutely zero class whatsoever, and this district and our city (Cleveland) are much better off. He was a total joke and complete failure as Mayor, just as he was during his reign of terror (and error) while he represented us in Congress.
Thank God for redistricting. Dennis was the Congressional equivalent of a slum landlord--and the city and district paid and paid many times over for his abhorrent neglect and complete inability to effectively represent his constituents.
Cleveland is making a remarkable turnaround with a plethora of projects and initiatives that should serve to revitalize the city. Finally ridding ourselves of Kucinich serves to greatly accelerate the process.
Good Riddance!!!

(15,185 posts)is the epitome of gerrymandered districts. Take a look:
It's an odd looking sliver and covers over 100 miles.
I think Kaptur's win was smart for the district overall. She's brought projects back to her district - by having worked on the appropriations committee, undoubtedly one of the more powerful committees in the House - and she may end up heading it if Dems take back the House. I don't care how outspoken Dennis may be. Ultimately you need to deliver the goods to your constituents. Kaptur sounds like a hard working progressive congress woman.

(19,537 posts)I was thinking of writing to him at the time that David Wu was in trouble to run if Wu resigned at the end of his term instead of mid term, since it was close to the state of Washington where he was considering running with the additional seat being added there. And here he wouldn't have had to run against a incumbent in the primary.
But when Wu left early and we had the special election, I knew he wouldn't jump away from his district mid term so it was out of the question then.
Anyway, I think I do like that Suzanne Bonamici won the special election and has a woman now in our congressional delegation here in Oregon.
I wonder if his earlier consideration of moving to Washington to run there worked against him in the primary in that Ohio district.
