Woman Killed by "Homemade Cannon"

Homicide investigators with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department are on the scene of a bizarre death in San Diego's East County.

Deputies say a man called 911 to report his wife may have been killed with a homemade cannon by accident.

Investigators along with U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to Potrero Valley Road around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Two men were working on the cannon outside the home in the Twin Lakes Resort mobile home park when it fired, sending a projectile into the home.

1. A "homemade cannon," Gracie?

There's a reason Adam and Jamie tell Mythbusters viewers not to try their stunts at home.

3. I swear to God that this was an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" a few years back, only one of the

men building the thing was shot, and the explosive didn't go off. The only difference is that, in fake life, he survived.

9. If that was the case, why would the BP get involved?

More likely they showed up because someone had questionable immigration status, or to render first aid.

I always thought cause of death was written as "GSW" (or applicable) rather than Negligent Husband.

8. Just in NRA to push RIGHT TO WHEEL for cannon owners!

We are very glad this team's post-apocalypse preparation did not include homemade nukes

Advice for those of you living next to the strangest family on the block--Point them toward full metal jousting, not cannon making.

11. I'm reminded of a sunny Sunday morning long ago

when one of the kids up the road decided to make a canon of sorts.

Turned out to be more of late fifties pipe bomb. He used a section of bicycle frame, a large ball bearing and ingredients I won't mention. He failed to account for the fact that the bore wasn't necessarily smooth nor the sides even parallel. Fortunately he used a long length of jetex fuse and was indoors when it detonated as a result of the ball bearing jamming at the end it shouldve flown from.

12. this makes me so angry

"Sgt. David Martinez with the San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. said it's legal to own a cannon but is not necessarily legal to fire it."

for me it's pretty much the same as with pit bulls. No it's not the cannon's fault, nor is it the pit bull's fault, but they're both dangerous and we might want to think about making them illegal, or at least finding a way to keep them out of the hands of morons.

Don't buy one.

17. So you're making the argument that people shouldn't own things that could be dangerous?

Or is your argument that people shouldn't own things that could be dangerous that you're having a knee jerk reaction to?
