Below is an email from D. Washington, a MoveOn member who created a petition at SignOn.org that is getting a lot of attention and may be of interest to you. If you have concerns or feedback about this petition, click here.

Dear MoveOn member,
Rush Limbaugh has gone too far with his attacks on Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke, calling her a "slut" and a "prostitute" and suggesting she post video tapes of herself online having sex.
Rush Limbaugh's radio show is a part of the Clear Channel lineup, and it's time that they no longer allow Rush Limbaugh to spew hateful and derogatory comments. That's why I created a petition to Clear Channel on SignOn.org, which says:
Sandra Fluke, a law student at Georgetown University who was advocating for health insurance plans to cover the cost of contraception, became the target of a series of attacks by Rush Limbaugh. Besides calling her a "slut," he also called her a "prostitute," said that he wanted her to make sex tapes and post them online, and speculated that she only had a problem paying for contraception because she was having "so much sex." We who support Ms. Fluke find that this is a serious offense committed by Mr. Limbaugh, and we ask that his radio show be terminated.

(14,337 posts)I am so PROUD that she understands that this is an attack and issue for ALL women. The likes of Rush, and his fellow SEXIST Republicans, thinkl women are only good to satisfy men and make babies for them. I would hope that lesbians understand that this is an AFFRONT to THEM also.
We are all SISTERS under the skin.

(5 posts)Mr. Limbaughs comments, on Clear Channel Radio Feb, 29th regarding law student Ms Sandra Fluke were disgusting and unwarranted. Her testimony before a special Democratic Congressional committee, was as an advocate, for womens health issues. But medicated Mr. Limbaugh thought it was much more. Not only did Mr. Limbaugh call her a whore and a slut, but then brings in her mother and father into it. Is this what is meant by Clear Channel Communications?
He continues regurgitating his slander for several days, compounding the undeserved public attention to Ms Flute for doing which is every persons right, to petition the government in response to a bill sponsored by Senator Roy Blunt.
Mr. Limbaughs verbal and slanderous words were meant intentionally to demean and impugn her character. As well as the character of her parents, and falsely stating she was suggesting she must be paid to have sex. There was no suggestion! Only in the medicated sick mind of Mr. Limbaugh. He wouldnt stop, calling her a slut, and a prostitute. Suggesting something she never suggested, she wants to get paid for ..having so much sex..
As I can determine, Ms Fluke, because of Mr. Limbaughs vicious character attack may have a legal recourse, which she can only determine.

It is then said that (1) the area of dissemination, (2) the deliberate and premeditated character of its publication, and (3) the persistence of the defamatory conduct are factors to be considered on whether or not the form of communication has the potentially harmful qualities characteristic of written or printed words. The position is also taken by a special section that broadcasting of defamatory matter by means of radio or television is libel, whether or not it is read from a manuscript, for the reason that such defamacast has the potentially harmful qualities characteristic of the written or printed word which has historically been regarded as libel.

Most courts, however, have now rebelled at the reproach to the law involved in such a result, and have held that an oral imputation of unchastely to a women is actionable without proof of damage without regard to whether it charges a crime.
I call on every person, help in closing up forever, any involvement in the Rush Limbaugh Clear Channel program. It is hoped that Clear Channel, follow their employee creed, that these same edicts also apply as well to your personal beliefs, and any outside business relationships. Your character, as well as the performance of any business will be effected wrong moral choices. As illustrated by advertisers in Clear Channels reluctance to apply their own moral beliefs to their involvement with Rush Limbaugh.
The Clear Channel employee creed
"We are in the business of helping our customers grow their businesses."
"We believe we have an obligation for the well-being of the communities in which we live. ..upon the responsibility we feel, the high standards we set and the positive impact our actions have
.We believe excellence is the standard and we seek to achieve excellence by encouraging and nourishing these core values: Respect for the individual.
"Clear Channel will not tolerate discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, ethnicity, national origin, marital status, veteran status, or any other legally-protected status."
