There has been a tragic death at my alma mater. They pulled a kid who was celebrating his 21st birthdy a couple of nights before out of the icy Wisconsin River today. He was last seen leaving a bar near the river.

Alcohol was likely a factor, police say. Duffey turned 21 at midnight Saturday, and the last time anyone saw him he was leaving Joe’s Bar at about 1:15 a.m., only a few hundred feet from where a diver found his body 60 hours later.
Police began searching the river after a witness came forward Sunday saying he heard someone yelling for help near the Clark Street bridge at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Assistant Chief Brian Kudronowicz said. The witness investigated, but did not see anything, Kudronowicz said.
A team of tracking dogs also led toward the river Sunday, and again Monday morning, Kudronowicz said.
No one is sure why Duffey walked toward the river instead of heading to his residence on Isadore Street. He left the bar alone, and police have no information that could place him in another location. Video of downtown establishments turned up no clues.
