Will Limbaugh get a big audience today?

I am suspecting he will.
- Some waiting for an apology
- some hoping he really goes after Fluke and the left
- some hoping for a real crash and burn
- some really curious what crazy thing he will do next
- some hoping to hear a historic radio moment.

not me fer sure

1. It seems likely

I'll be watching Media Matters as I don't think I want to listen to it live.

It is going to be 30 seconds reiterating the apology and 40 minutes explaining how he's a victim of the left wing crazies who do exactly the same thing and want to force catholics to give out birth control.

Well that's the first hour anyway, he'll probably spend most of the show on that theme.

5. A serious heartfelt apology is pretty near to impossible

The other technique he might try is ignoring it as best he can. He doesn't take a lot of callers on Monday anyway. But I think the self pitying side of him will probably mandate the former approach.

4. If he says those two magic words, people may tune in

The two magic words would be, "I quit".
The two magic words he actually thinks are likely, "Fuck you."

6. I think this will just rally his supporters (those who aren't pissed at him for "caving")

and won't hurt him one bit. Yeah, he's been dinged by advertisers, but I don't think it will ultimately have much effect except MAYBE his remarks might be a little less incendiary for a while.

7. His Bosses Are Betting On It...

That's always part of Rushbo's madness. He spent the better part of last week letting this thing build...leaving it on full burn on Friday while letting the blogoshere and talking heads play with it all weekend. Mission accomplished. Rushbo and radio need a big day today...it's a major reason he created this stink in the first place and in a critical "book" for radio stations he could help some of his drowning affiliates with a bit of a spike.

The other dirty secret is the co-depenency between radio and the rushpublican party. It goes from Bain Capital's control of Cheap Channel (anyone gonna ask Millard if he has any CC stock??) to rushbo's near zombie-like fear over the leadership of the rushpublican party. They piss him off at their own peril...and why we've heard such muted and tepid response. (Another reason is most agree with rushbo's slander). Radio is benefiting greatly from the clown car demolition derby...getting a slice of the billions in campaign ad spending and needs rushpublicans to keep on spending...

I bet he has more listeners that hate him than ones that like him. That's how the psychology works for people like this and makes them money and actually makes them more relevant.
