During the Republican candidate forum on Fox News, Rick Santorum faced a critical question from a college student in Ohio who was on the panel, on his having accused President Obama of being a "snob" who wants everyone to go to college a remark that the student said did not go over well on his own campus. Santorum then sought to clarify the situation.
"It wasn't about having a chance to go to school. I was actually going on and talking about how, the president with health care was mandating the health care you're going to have," said Santorum, as well as the government financial reform measures regulating people's mortgages, "going through a whole bunch of things where he was telling you what's best for you." He stated that he, too, believes everyone should have the opportunity to go to college, or to pursue other opportunities in life such as technical schools (in fact, Obama included technical schools in his original remarks), joining the military, or going straight into business and the job market.
He further added: "It's this attitude that we, that government knows best for everybody, and we're going to reject this template, which is what i was reacting to, was this elitist sort of behavior."

(70,490 posts)What you really wanted to talk about was health care so that is why you talked
about people going to college ..... makes sense to me just like people in the
Netherlands have to wear "please don't kill me bracelets" to keep from being
euthanized if they get taken to a hospital.
Sorry Rick you can't un-ring the bell.

(39,215 posts)that opportunity that he says he wants. Plus I have been around long enough to know that usually ideas like these start out as grassroots ideas and are picked up by candidates. So blame the people not the president. We are the ones who are telling him what we need and want.
