Every political faction assumes its policies improve the economy and society. This assumes your way is the right way every time. If that were the case then we wouldn't be a democracy. The idea of democracy is self-governance. The people choose. That assumes the people can occasionally choose poorly or reach an impasse while choosing and such ideas weren't unknown to the founders. Yet, it was more important that we choose rather than write some binding moral code to govern us for all time because those things -- also known to the founders -- turn into things far worse than anything we're experiencing now.

You can't save the political process by instigating a shooting civil war anymore than you can bomb a village into freedom.
